2022 Badger Football Thread

They won't go to UW. No reason too..they would prefer to go to schools like App State and stay in the culture they love.
So WI will just continue to get the Midwest and east coast low quality kids with a West Coast or South kid that likely had zero interest from other schools.

I mean they'll get a nibble here and there IF we continue on the same path... If whoever the next HC changes it up then maybe not.

People high up at UW scared of change they want the Barry method to stick around as they think that works.

I think a lot of people are confused about what culture means. Unless you have seen the difference between Southern culture in football, and Wisconsin, it's like night and day.

Mark and I have both seen it up close and personal up North, and down here, in the South. It's such a deep rooted thing.

The total immersion of communities surrounding the culture of football. Up North, we have a dedicated fan base, but it usually surrounds the families of kids playing. Down here, it's a frenzy of activity surrounding the team, by the entire community. Their idea down here of a pep rally is half the community showing up at a bonfire, cheering, and carrying on, wearing the school colors, and vowing their allegiance to their alma mater. I remember a coach telling me a few years ago how it was more like a cult following than fans. It doesn't end with HS. They seek out colleges who fit that model.

Down south HS football is year round thing with recuritng and training and playing. Up in WI after football ends it moves straight to basketball for kids and then track. Then kids start getting ready for Football in June or July. For WI it's just a HS sport to play nothing to live and breath. For some kids its just a way to play with friends and stay in shape until their real love of baseketball does start.

not the point.... you can't recruit in the SE..SW and west when your culture in Madison is backwards from it. Again, you'll get a few but more often than not they'll go another direction. It's just going to be tough is all.

But hey in WI you can go cow tipping, play bar dice, go fishing and ice fishing and drink beer and well that's about it. LOL

I understand WI is not for everyone.

BUT, it could be appealing for a lot. I'm not sure we're selling it right. I believe we could accentuate our positives better.

This was the largest scoreboard in high school football, as of 3 years ago. It's near the border, where we spend the coldest part of winter. It's 36' x 60'. Here's an article on how much money they will generate from having it. They got donations to pay the cost, over 10 years, and will also be generating income from it for the football program. Cost and amortization of scoreboard.

WI will never have that kind of money to support HI sports. 99% of money comes from the taxpayer.
