The Green Bay Packers will take on the Philadelphia Eagles in the preseason opener at Lambeau Field.
This will be the 16th time Green Bay and Philadelphia have met during the preseason. The Eagles lead the preseason series, 9-6.

The last time the two teams met was during the regular season last year, a 27-13 Packers victory at Philadelphia that gave Green Bay a 26-14 lead in the regular-season series.

The Packers and Eagles last played each other during the preseason in 2015, a 39-26 road victory by Philadelphia.

This will be the fifth consecutive year that the Packers and Eagles have faced each other in the preseason or regular season.

The Packers will take to the road for their second preseason game, traveling to play the Washington Redskins on Saturday, Aug. 19, at 6:30 p.m. CST.

BISHOP’S CHARITIES GAME
Thursday night marks another Green Bay preseason tradition: the Bishop’s Charities Game. It was first played in 1961 after Vince Lombardi was approached by the Diocese of Green Bay about playing a charitable contest in Green Bay (the Shrine contest was a fixture in Milwaukee).
The series enjoys its 57th contest this year and has raised more than $3.7 million.
For more than 30 years, the church handled much of the game’s business-related tasks, including game-program and advertising sales, using a network of volunteers covering 14 counties throughout northeastern Wisconsin. The Packers assumed many of those tasks beginning in 1994.

The Packers are 31-24-1 all-time in the series.

The Eagles will be making their second appearance in the Bishop’s Charities Game. Their lone appearance came in 1983, a 27-14 Philadelphia victory.
Green Bay has won three consecutive contests and seven of the last eight games in the series, including a 20-12 victory over the Oakland Raiders last year. Prior to that, the Packers had lost six consecutive Bishop’s Charities contests. That six-game losing streak (2003-08) came on the heels of a 12-game winning streak (1991-2002) in the series.
Over the last three Bishop’s Charities Games, the Packers have outscored their opponents, 92-36.

McCarren first joined the team’s broadcasts in 1995 and enters his 23rd season calling Packers games. After originally being paired together in 1999, McCarren and Larrivee enter their 19th season of broadcasts together.

The Packers also defeated Philadelphia in Week 2 of the 1996 season, 39-13, as part of a 13-3 season that led to a Super Bowl XXXI victory.
The Eagles handed Hall of Fame head coach Vince Lombardi his only postseason defeat in the 1960 NFL Championship, 17-13.
Green Bay’s Week 12 matchup in Philadelphia in 2016 was the start of the club’s six consecutive wins to close out the regular season en route to the Packers’ NFC North title.

The first preseason game is when coaches and GMs put emphasis on the #1 back up being fired up, and moving the team. If the guy does, and does it exceptionally well, the wheels start turning in the GM's head about how to handle the situation. In the case of someone like we have as a back up, the idea is; "What's he worth?" Rodgers ain't going anywhere, so Hundley could.

It's also the first round of competition for who stays and goes, across the board, in every other position, but it's a little different. Usually it's a question as to who gets cut, but sometimes a guy can play himself onto the roster, and the guy who had been slated ahead of him, is good, according to other teams, and they take him in a trade.

I think we might see one or two trades by Thompson this year, and that's very rare.

No Rodgers and guessing the starters get a series or 2. Be interesting to see how our depth is. Since I work Friday the second half isn't happening for me.

I"m anxious to see the rook RB's tomorrow night. Also anxious to see Crosby with new holder/snapper. Camp reports say he's done great but game conditions are much different.

I am hoping to see two things tonight:

(1) Would be awesome to see Hundley get off to a fast start to know we have a legitimate back-up to Rodgers (God forbid) this year, and also a good preseason increases his trade value since this will likely be has last year as a Packer.
(2) Work on new defensive packages to learn from and become proficient in them early. The key (and concern) to the SB again this year is the Capers D.

Oh... and no injuries.

Interested to see our top two picks. Just see how they move and flow to the ball. Also, get a look at some of the OL back ups. Spriggs, Murphy, Amichia and Gray. Would also like to see Fack and Elliot show something.

Anyone got an idea how to watch the Pack for free tonight? Blacked out up here in Duckland.

We figure to get a nice long look at Vogel, lots of punting expected. See if that FG group cleans things up too.

Damn, hope Dupre will be OK... He may have dropped his head just a bit.. But the PHi player came in head first with his arms behind him.. That should be a hefty fine if the NFL is really serious about player safety, which I doubt...

So did anybody actually step up and make an impression? I missed the game school registration tonight.

Vogel had a bad first punt but was pretty good after; Davis showed speed but also good reads and feel on two nice punt returns; Hundley looked in command despite shortcomings; King was soft in coverage but stuck his nose in on a couple nice tackles; many missed tackles by #1 D early on including CMIII, King and Rollins; Joe "Flutie" Callahan did his thing, broken plays etc; Capers was practicing that Nitro stuff while eagles O was bland so take that for what it's worth; 3 concussions - Randall, Dupre and Pipkins; Brice seems to be around the ball a lot but overly aggressive and misses; Josh Jones is a big dude; I turned it off after the 3rd but Fackrell did not play to that point - firmly in the doghouse.
