The Brewers allowed Jordan Lyles to leave as a free agent after the 2018 season and he signed a one-year, $2.05 million deal with the Pirates.

Garbage trade. Trade a mid-tier prospect for a guy with a era over 5 and has got blown up in the month of July. Rather have stood pat then give up anything for this guy.
 
Yep mid tier “prospect” who won’t help you anytime soon and most likely never. With injuries you need bodies and arms. It’s a meh trade but I have no issues with it.
 
They traded a "meh" prospect for a "meh" major league pitcher. Not a bad deal at all. Ponce is in year 5 with the team and still has not advanced beyond AA ball. Was no longer a starting pitcher. In two years of mostly starting at AA ball in 2017 and 2018 he had an ERA of around 5.00. He only pitched in relief this year. He was very likely going to be a "meh" major league relief pitcher at some point. It's not like they dealt a top prospect. It was a value for value deal.
