2025 Badger Football Thread

Going into the Washington Game.

Bucky will not have Renfro (Starting Center), Jones (Starting Running Back), and Traynor (Rotational Safety) and will not have them for the rest of the year. And, these are just the latest 3.

Edwards (Starting QB) is gone for the season. O'Neil (Backup QB) - what's going on with him? Is he injured? Is he refusing to play? Is he moving on?

Who is there to play for Bucky? We're Wisconsin who on its best day doesn't get the best, now we're 3-4 deep on our roster. This is nuts.

Then you compound all of that with academic requirements and at least perceived NIL money issues. NIL payouts might be low because - really what are these guys worth?

I know everybody wants to get rid of Coach Fickell, but at this point who's going to do better, and who's going to want to come here?

I already posted 3 guys that fit and would make great HC...there are others. You've said your piece multiple times, but no one's buying.

So whats going on with Edwards? Rumors he can play but he's aiming to sit out to hope he can get a medical redshirt and try to get paid again?

That's why there is no point in firing him mid-season. I don't really know why schools do these mid-season firings unless they have an assistant they want to have "audition" for the job, or the locker room has started to rebel.

As for the long-term, someone good will want the job. If it's not for the challenge of turning around a P4 program, there is always the $$$'s that motivate some guys to take the job.

Consider the two guys Mark mentioned last week - Jeff Monken and Sean Lewis. Monken currently makes about $2.5mil and Lewis about $2mil. The Badger job will likely pay $5-8mil based on what Fick is making. That kind of money is tempting even to take over a foundering program like UW.

screwed up a hammy... he can play but 60%

Damn. Sorry he's hurt. And at 60%, he can't play behind this line.

I had read that he was 100% but refusing to go in. I feel a little better now. Not great, but at least he's not refusing to go in.

And, we shouldn't put him in until he's 100%.

OK, but be careful what you ask for.

Coach Monken is doing great at Army.

Coach Lewis is doing good this year at San Diego State.

Neither Army nor State are playing Big 10 competition. Not saying that can't coach up at Big 10 Level - but they aren't now. Doing more with less is easier outside the Big 10, SEC, ACC, and even Big 12.

I'm not against switching coaches. I just think there are a lot more things hurting WI football than coaching and recruiting - coaching and recruiting are a big part but just a part. If we switch coaches, won't we just be putting a new coach into a bad situation? Shouldn't we address the entire program and then make a coaching determination?

I think the wrong decision could crater WI football worse.

Regarding Lewis or Monken only, I think Wisconsin would have a better chance of luring Lewis away than Monken. Coaches seem to like the Academy jobs and Academy kids.

Thats why they didn't.... they tried to hide it in casew he had to play and ABC opened their trap
