I heard it with my own ears and those kids are committed elsewhere...they had no reason to lie. That's not a good look and if that is the case, Fick needs gone.

If that is the case UW needs to clean house after next hear. McIntosh will not fire Fickell and I doubt the Chancellor is going to fire McIntosh so will need to fire the Chancellor and hire a new one who will fire the AD and the new AD will fire Fickell.I can now post this. Wisconsin stopped recruiting top prospects in GA halfway through the year. To the point of what's wrong at UW, local top recruit Chance Payne, who is going to Minnesota, stopped considering UW after the coaches came to the area, and I quote from Chance," they were rude and disrespectful to my parents."
Max Brown, whose brother plays for Clemson, and where Max is going, also dumped UW from the mix early on after a call from HC Fick to him and his dad. When I asked Max, who was standing next to Chance, about his call, he just said, "I am surprised anyone wants to play for him."
(Thats why our top RB prospect jumped NOT $$)
So they can prop themselves up with this narrative all they want... the word is out on this staff, it's not good.

No thats talking about other HS recruiting his players which is an issue now this is about UW national recruiting and how the staff and program is being perceived by recruits.I live in the middle of one of the hottest hotbeds of HS FB currently, and the local kids see just about every major program come through the doors... UW is no longer one of the programs that kids want to talk with, thats entirely on Fick and his staff.i found this on the interwebs, and even though i was posted by a high school coach, and not a college coach it sounds like maybe some of these ideas could be relevant:
"I coach in an area where recruiting and poaching is rampant. Here’s how I deal with it: I focus on what I control. We give our kids the best experience possible, develop them the best we can, promote them to colleges and give them all the resources you can give them. If in turn they still want to leave then you let them and prepare the next kid up. I don’t try to convince them to stay, that’s wasted energy to keep someone that’s already on the fence."
i knew exactly what is was talking about, but i think it is relevant - maybe in a way that you didn't expect. i think maybe fick has some of the attitude that the high school coach has - "if you're not sure you want to play here, then screw you. i'm not going to waste my time on you". and while that attitude might work in high school, i don't think it's going to work with college players, especially in the age of nil. and especially if you want kids to want to play for you. maybe i'm wrong, but i think that attitude would alienate most kids. it sure seemed that was kind of what payne and brown were saying. No thats talking about other HS recruiting his players which is an issue now this is about UW national recruiting and how the staff and program is being perceived by recruits.I live in the middle of one of the hottest hotbeds of HS FB currently, and the local kids see just about every major program come through the doors... Fickell and McIntosh have destroyed UW football. No one wants to play under them and the school is to cheap to fire them.Eugene Hilton, freshman WR and son of NFL player T.Y. Hilton has announced he's leaving Madison and entering the transfer portal. He was one of the prize recruits in the '25 class. Huge hit as he would have likely been a starter next season.
There had been some whispers about him leaving. The Badger's WR room is decimated and is a total mess. They'll have to the portal hard at WR, but with their lousy passing offense it'll be tough to attract guys. They'll need to hit on a good portal QB first thing, in order to even get some consideration from decent WRs.
I can see Smith side though. The want to know are we part of the future next year at UW and going to be given a chance to start or should I look elsewhere. Not hard to give the kid a response to that.Oh my god, Coach Fickell hasn't been in recent contact with Carter Smith - who was outpassed by a punter - since the season ended.
Doesn't he know that Coach Fickell and company have been busy down in Georgia insulting potential players moms?
FFS. It's also the holidays and off season.
I swear if you think Coach Fickell is a meany, imagine what you'd think of me and my knuckle dragging do your job ways?
Now, I don't want him to through a fit and took his ball and went home or elsewhere. But, would it be that big a loss? The kid has moxey. He can run. He got us a couple of wins. But, really? Unfortunately, and I wish it were different, he's just a name on a depth chart. He's not a needle mover.
And, unfortunately, nobody leaving so far is a needle mover except maybe the wide receivers - who we don't even know about - because see above - in at least one game our leading passer was a punter.
This is a whole new program as if it were starting from nothing. Nobody at Wisconsin is really worth fretting over. The only hope we have is we start getting some really hungry guys like our Freshman linebackers that play above their paygrade.
