Rodgers Wants Out

If I was Mark Murphy
  • Cut bait
  • Announce that the organization and Rodgers have come to an impasse and it’s best for all parties to move on
  • Thank him for everything he has done for the organization and he will always be part of the Packer family
  • Put no timeline on a trade allow Dunn and Rodgers to find a deal that’s satisfactory for all parties
  • Take the high road and don’t go after the money

Win win. Move on from the distraction, get assets in return, puts the organization in a positive light. 12 is happy, he move on to his happy place and basically handcuffs him from making a scene

It's only a win-win if GB gets "equal" value back on a trade, which is unlikely. But it's also not a win for GB in regards to having to "give in" to a disgruntled player - even if it is the right thing to do.

It’s not about giving in or not. It’s a business decision. And the value part is subjective. What is fair or equal value? He’s 38, the chances of skills declining are greater than another MVP season. He’s not going to be in GB in 2022, that’s a given IMO. And add in the distraction. It’s a business

It's way too late to get equal value. Should have traded him pre-draft. That chicken has flown the preverbal coop

And there is the issue. Pre draft yes , more value but if it’s pre 6/2 it’s more financial implications. Yeah you could conceivably designate it 6/2 but if players are involved and they get injured it blows up. And trading picks pre 6/2 might not make Park Avenue happy

What I find difficult to quantify is Rodgers real trade value.

Yes, he is the reigning MVP.

But, was his 2020 season due to him being Aaron Almighty?
Or, is it in large part due to the offense ML employs at GB?
I’ll say it’s a bit of both.

Remember, for the 2 or 3 seasons leading up to last year there were more than a few experts who were wondering out loud if Rodgers best days might be behind him.

Even in his first year in ML’s system he struggled at times as he adjusted away from the “be all, do all” MM system. After all, old habits for old dogs are hard to break, and Rodgers IS an old dog.

It’s been talked about, at length, here that ML’s system is “QB friendly” and that you don’t necessarily need a HOF’er at QB to make it work.

So, any team that trades for AR may end up with buyers remorse because they may get the 2018-2019 version of Rodgers instead of the 2020 version.

Again, I find it hard to pin down what AR’s real trade value is, and it may be less than what we think & hope for.

What we're all forgetting is that Rodgers could be traded after the season starts. If he does, or doesn't show up, he could be dealt until the 1st or 2nd week of November. Exact date unknown. League needs to decide.

I have a hunch that could end up being the case.
