Gute made a great hire. Unfortunately, I don't believe Gutey lived up to his end of the bargain. Any GM coming in would surely love to have ML. What is there to lose?

As I recall, Murphy made the decision to hire ML. Gute and Ball were involved in the interview process, but Murphy made the hire to make it understood Gute, ML, and Ball all directly reported to him.

If I remember right, Casserly had the whole list of potential candidates, but was high on the OC from NE MLF was their last stop on the interview tour and blew them away, and boom, history.... thank god because the other dude was a friggin disaster.
 
The fact GB is consistently one of the youngest teams in the league shows just how bad this FO is at finding guys who can develop and play at a high level over a long term. The constant turnover is bad and stunts the growth of leadership and consistency.

ML is a helluva coach all things considered.

Bad decisions compound, a team should always be able to keep a guy like TJ Slaton, who didn't command a lot of money but played an important role. It's why they're always youngest - those players either don't work out, or when they do, they let them leave and you lose all that development time you put in.
 
See a lot of fools posting on social media saying trade Love keep Willis. Do they watch Willis? The guy takes off running most of the time. Over a whole season that is not going to win you many games as teams will just play him as a running QB who probably gets hurt at some point. You start Willis over 17 games I don't think that team wins 7 games.
