So here we are again. 11 years and no SB to be had. This year's breakdown is very candid and not for the faint of heart.

Offense:
In a year of 2- 1,000 yard rushers and a great year from Adams, there weren't a lot of other players you could get excited about. The big issue from this group was consistency, one half they look like champions and the other they look like Green bay West. To be fair we played the whole yr without a pro bowl LT tackle and down the stretch without a pro bowl interior O-lineman and still did reasonably well.

The problem here is still trying to run 3-4 wide and sling it when you're getting 4.5 yards a carry and play action is there. Is it ML? Or is this Rodgers? Based on the two articles and the candid stuff from Sternberger ( who never regained favor and got cut) about him calling plays from the MM era etc I'm inclined to go with AR here as the bigger issue. ( More on Aaron later)

This group wasn't awful but they weren't barn burners for 4 Qtrs every game, beyond Adams just not sure we have enough talent at WR and our TE are nothing more than okay.

So I'll give them a B for the year.

Defense:

So when you're comparing the cluster%^*&*( from the last yr to this it's fairly easy to say...wow what an improvement.) And they did somewhat improve but again same kind of issue for me here no damn consistency. Berry and his cover 2 and 3 looks kept other teams in a lot of ballgames, the front 7 had hot/cold stretches that didn't get scrutinized enough for my take.

Take Campbell out of the LB corp and they are just an okay group. Less Alexander and an overachieving Dougless and again they are just okay. Stokes did well for a rookie but had his moments.

The safety play was also hot/cold, Personal opinion is that the scheme hindered this group a lot.

DL outside of Clarke isn't very good at all. This area has to be addressed.

I gave this group a C plus, I am not a fan of the scheme. Yes, they improved from last years D plus group but that's sure not saying much.

ST; They aren't special and they played like crap for most of the year, several factors play into this so hang on and hear me out:

A: Your team's units are the bottom half of the roster that you can afford. 85% of that is on Gute and his personal guys. Don't undersell this at all.
B. You changed punters/ holders and long snappers after the season started. This IS beyond stupid and all those responsible deserve a sound @$$ chewing. You don't F with the timing after things get started unless of injury. bh(rant)
C. Never ever established a return man because of poor personal decisions, that's done in camp. ( Again another mark against Gute and ML)

Now we get to the coaching end of this pile of crap, so you're the Packers Teams coach, in camp, you establish your punt team,. kick teams etc. All good BUT wait.... let's change the above(punter/holder guys out)...Make it work Maurice.... next week hold it hold it I need to cut two add 3 and by the way AR wants Cobb back so we need to yank another guy you had established.

Musical chairs work at the local fire dept calk walk... it does not work well in NFL FB when you're trying to establish continuity. Case in point Lancaster was not on FG the past few weeks but moved there when you made some personal changes this week...and boom! Miscue.

Roster management is very much a part of this, I can give you a steak grilled the way you want but if you give me old ground chuck then you're getting a hamburger. Drayton should get fired but don't think it gets better on teams until Gute and ML change the way they approach things.

Grade F

I probably should cover the front office and HC separately but frankly I no longer know where one stops and the other begins. ML records is impressive and no one anywhere can deny the culture change he brought from that fat ass MM. Still the above mention ST changes he advocated for were a cluster and he gets a piece of it along with Gute.

Gute and Murphy created a damn mess offseason with Aaron that lingered into our season, they then folded like a cheap suitcase and brought him back last minute. Not a fan of any of that and for that matter the milage one Aaron Rodgers used to achieve it. Not one of them look good after that.

My problem with ML here was that he failed to A. peel the paint with the two stooges about it all and B. He and his staff talked up Love UNTIL... AR came back then the became an afterthought. Let's remember when TT/MM committed to Aaron they were all in no hedging. This was the first character flaw on ML I saw, disappointing.

It's ML job to get the kid ready, I don't think they gave Love a fair shake. Another doink on ML.

Another issue and you all know what's coming was coddling Aaron just like GB did with Favre late, giving him whatever he wanted, changing the plays..go get his buddies. All of them ML, Gute and Murphy get a demerit for it.

It didn't work, one and done. Grade HC C Plus Front Office D and the team's fiasco makes it almost a D minus.

Summary:

I bought into we want to compete for the SB crap Murphy sold when he fired MM and demoted TT. It was pure bullcrap. For 11 years it's been the same kind of personal decision that brings us down. Nothing has really changed has it?

Aaron will go down as a first-ballot HOF QB, no doubt but just like MM it's stale now for both parties. He spent too much time on the McAfee show spinning narratives and nursing his little toe and not enough time staying at Lambeau after dark watching film. It's past time to part company.

The cap math doesn't lie we mortgage our souls for a 1-year run and it went boom!

NFC north champs... winning record but warts nevertheless

2021 22 Packers Team Grade is a B minus.

See you for the draft soon!

Whew, I thought I was gonna be the only one not fully impressed with this defensive scheme. I'm still not sold on Barry's scheme but at this point what do you do? Go after Zimmer or different D coord? I don't see ML doing that but I hope they get some pieces on that side of the ball. Don't get me wrong, last nights D performance was good. It gave the team a chance to win but if I'm thinking in terms of a year end evaluation, yes it seems improved from last season but it was inconstant. Maybe another year under Barry will show improvement. Gonna be an interesting off season.

Agree on Murphy... unfortunately the BOD are not football people and Murphy can talk like a sleezy salesman. Not sure how you get him out of there. But many of us could see after TT left and Murphy went for the power grab that bad things were on the horizon. This mess only gets cleaned up if there is change and accountability at the top as well.

F- for entire team for way season ended.

I don't like using the "good old boy" network stuff but it's this hometown comfortability, Midwest aw shucks kinda thing going on where as long as the money is pouring in, they're ok. They like "Packer people". They protect their own.

Next couple years will be big for ML and Gute if they have some really bad years like 3-5 win seasons both could be shown the door.
