Our View: The Badgers have shown to not be afraid to mine any area for any talent they see fit so far in the Paul Chryst era, and Deron Harrell’s recruitment is a great example of that. He went completely unknown by anyone on the recruiting trail until the Badgers offered him in January. Harrell will come to UW as a grayshirt though, meaning he signed his NLI but won’t report for school until January of 2017 and start counting against the scholarship numbers at that point.

All of that aside, Wisconsin went out and got another pure athlete. At 6-3, 175 pounds, Harrell is going to come to UW as a cornerback first. It will be interesting to see where he ends up settling in, given the fact that he has pretty much played anywhere and everywhere for his Denver East high school team. Watching what the Badgers coaching staff does with his raw talent (4.49 laser timed 40-yard dash) will be of great interest.

Given all the players UW was in on, they clearly valued Harrell enough to pass on other options in the mix to help round out this 2016 recruiting class.
