One 5th (Runyan) and two 6th’s (Stepaniak and Hanson). Are we going to count on 3 six round picks to step up as possible starters?
On the other hand, Preston had his best years under Pettine. He has been an up/down player his whole career, check his stat lines.Speculation on my part, but since Barry was DC with WFT and had Packers LB coach Olivadotti on that staff, AND that they drafted Preston Smith........makes me wonder if Barry will lobby to keep Smith as he may feel he has a better idea of how to use Smith than MP did.
Technically, they aren’t rookies anymore. We did draft 3 IOL last year, but still kept Taylor on the roster. It may look like you have the guys you need at OG/C, but we haven't seen much from the 3 late round draft picks other than some snaps from Runyan. Who knows how they'll turn out. Taylor was good enough to start last year before the injury. Are any of the 3 rookies ready for that role? I'm not sure, but a cheap contract on Taylor seems like reasonable insurance unless the draft and FA bring you better options.
To me it's almost a foregone conclusion that you'll need to draft an OT to compete for the RT spot this fall. Starting out, you'll probably need Turner at LT and maybe Jenkins at OC. Now if there is no Wagner and a rookie isn't ready for RT then Jenkins may need to kick out to RT with Patrick at OC. Suddenly you have no guards with any experience. Runyan might be one answer, but I'm not ready to say Stepaniak or Hanson are the other answer.
"seems like" being the operative words. so many of the draft prospects played little to none of this past season and are being evaluated on the basis of what they did in 2019. this draft is going to be even more of a crap shoot than usual - especially after the first two rounds.Fortunately it seems like a pretty solid OL group this year so decent options should be available in the first 3 rounds.
Shows you how much better TB has drafted last 3 draft in 4 rounds TB has 10 starters. last 3 drafts for GB in 4 rounds GB has 3 starters.Yes, Tampa drafted much earlier than we did, but:

Drafts Gave Buccaneers Huge Edge Over Packers
It's easy to see how the Tampa Bay Buccaneers blew past the Green Bay Packers to win the Super Bowl, with Tom Brady being just one factor.www.si.com
