Not Practicing / Limited:

  • LB Quay Walker (ankle, limited)
  • WR Christian Watson (knee)
  • DE Collin Oliver (hamstring)
  • RB Amar Johnson (hamstring)
  • OL John Williams (back)
  • Elgton Jenkins (back, NFI)
Offense:

  • Walkthrough 2 min starters & notes:
    • Love - Willis
    • Jacobs - Brooks
    • Williams - Doubs - Wicks - Reed - Heath
    • Kraft - Musgrave - Sims
    • Walker - Banks - Rhyan - Morgan - Tom
  • OL Jordan Morgan running up and down along the bleachers to fire up the Nitschke Field crowd for Packers training camp. That’s becoming the duty of one lineman each day before they begin indy drills.
  • Packers open three wide in team, Love hits Reed on a slant to get it going
  • LVN with a pressure, Love gets the ball off and threads a pass to Hardman for a big gain. Williams gambles to try and break it up but misses and Hardman was free.
  • Lloyd showing off his speed and vision. Nice little cut inside. Simmons may have had a shot at him in a real game.
  • Cox all over a bootleg by Willis but Willis buys time and fires over the middle to a wide open Ben Sims for a really nice gain.
  • Two minute drill. 2’s on offense vs 1s on defense first. Tie game. 1:59 left. 1 timeout.
    • Willis throws a super impressive deep corner route fading away to Hicks but it glances off his finger tips incomplete.
    • Willis to Hardman for 5. Clock ticks.
    • Willis to Williams for 5. A generous First down. Out of bounds.
    • Screen to Brooks loses 3-4 yards. Clock ticks.
    • Hardman gets back to the original line of scrimmage. Clock ticks.
    • Check down to Lloyd for about 7. Clock ticks.
  • Two minute drill. 1’s on offense vs 1s on defense first. Tie game. 1:59 left. 1 timeout.
    • Love to Doubs on a slant for 7. Clock ticks.
    • Love to Reed for 4. First down. Clock ticks.
    • Handoff to Jacobs. Gain of 2-3. Clock ticks.
    • Jordan Love’s hard count got Nate Hobbs to jump offside on the perimeter before 3rd & 7.
  • 3’s Two minute drill up next. Elgersma at QB. Short completion along sidelines to White. Oob Run by White for a handful.
  • Of note on the 2 minute drive - Travis Glover was with the 1’s at LG. Aaron Banks had come to the sideline grimacing right before that. Hopefully it’s nothing/happenstance. Travis Glover has been taking left guard reps on starting offensive line. Might just be getting some work. Aaron Banks is still on the sideline, wearing his helmet.
  • Love to Wicks over the middle for a nice pickup off a fake toss
  • Love finds wicks again on a nice little dig route. Shorter pickup this time.
  • Emanuel Wilson finds a crease for a nice gain!
  • Willis to Hardman on the next play on an intermediate crosser for a nice gain. Mecole Hardman has caught a lotta passes this summer, going back to OTAs.
  • Willis with a beautiful deep ball to Savion Williams deep down the right sideline who tried to make a diving attempt but couldn’t hang on.
  • Checkdown to Wilson for a good gain.
  • Willis to Golden short who broke Junior’s ankles, then broke Hoppers ankles, two sweet jukes and a big run after the catch.
  • Love gets Cooper to jump offsides, wants Doubs deep but Doubs cut off his route. Love wanted the shot play with the free play. Day 2 of training camp stuff. Love is getting guys biting on the hard count today.
  • Love with a tight throw on a line to Kraft over the middle.
  • Josh Jacobs has a step deep down the field but Love misses him long. Missed opportunity there.
  • Love threads another throw to Golden and Golden is really showing off his speed in the open field today! He looks great! Throw threaded through two defenders. Definitely coulda been a sack, but it’s Day 2.
Defense:

  • Walkthrough 2 min starters & notes:
    • Gary - Cox
    • Wyatt - Clark - Brooks
    • McDuffie - Cooper - Simmons
    • Valentine - Hobbs - Bullard - Nixon
    • McKinney - Williams
    • Just walkthrough for Quay today coming off PUP
  • Rookie seventh-rounder Micah Robinson (knee) has returned to practicing
  • LVN with the ones in the first actual team drills - it was Cox in walkthroughs. Everything else status quo.
  • Nice jump on an out route from Javon Bullard, breaking up a Jordan Love pass to Tucker Kraft. Read it perfectly.
  • Bo Melton all over a read option keeper by Willis.
  • Bo Melton follows up with a pass breakup and perfect coverage on Savion Williams over the middle. Bo showing up.
  • Rashan Gary showing off that much improved run defense from a year ago. All over a Josh Jacobs cut back for a “tackle” at the line. Played the cut back lane perfectly and stayed with his assignment.
  • Barryn Sorrell with a coverage sack on Willis. Willis allowed to scramble and throw and hits a side arm beauty to Golden down the sideline.
  • Two minute drill. 2’s on offense vs 1s on defense first. Tie game. 1:59 left. 1 timeout. Isaiah Simmons flashing his size, tips a pass up from Willis and Carrington Valentine picks it off. PICK-SIX for Carrington Valentine.
    • Same situation - same groups but mix of 1s and 2’s on defense. 1st down:
    • Timeout. 4th down. Defense wins as offense would be forced to punt.
  • Two minute drill. 1’s on offense vs 1s on defense first. Tie game. 1:59 left. 1 timeout.
    • Love to Kraft, LvN with great pressure. Kraft can’t come up with it. Solid coverage. Incomplete.
    • Neutral zone infraction by Hobbs.
    • Hobbs atones with a huge breakup on 3rd down forcing the “punt”. He was fired up after a diving PBU covering Wicks on 3rd & Short. Defense wins.
  • 3’s two minute drill up next. Elgersma tries the seam and Omar Brown is all over it for the pick and the win for the defense.
  • A 3-0 sweep by the defense in 2-minute
  • Barryn Sorrell would’ve had a sack on Malik Willis rushing from perimeter. Also hopped inside as an interior rusher. Packers checking out the rookie’s versatility up front.
  • Quay Walker watching on from down the field during team one on ones. Doing footwork at snap
  • Edgerrin Cooper just had one of those plays where he shoots into the backfield at warp speed for a TFL. Becoming routine.
  • Willis overshoots Hicks - good coverage by Dunn.
  • Mosby got a great job for a quick pressure (maybe sack) on Elgersma. Steno was looking for a false start but no flat. I thought he looked slightly early. Close call.
  • Practice ends with a sack by Keith Randolph. Defense dominates the key segments and wins the day.
Special Teams:

  • Matthew Golden with a muffed punt off JUGS during PR drills
  • Dontayvion Wicks muffed a punt off JUGS.
  • Hardman, Nixon, Reed and Doubs among others repping punts.
  • Jayden Reed let a punt off the JUGS machine drop in front of him. Scooped it as swarm was closing.
  • Worth adding that I think the punt returners were lined up way too far back for the machine. Keisean Nixon said so. Golden had to sprint up to reach the punt. Doesn’t fully excuse muffing it off his knee, but some context. Wicks also botched one later off his family jewels.

Practice is finished: 1 hour, 54 minutes

Interviews:

  • Matt LaFleur
    • Says Nathaniel Hackett will be in an "analyst role for the defense." Says he can provide a "fresh perspective." Will be "in and out" over the 2025 season.
    • On Tucker Kraft: "I think he's just scratching the surface of what he's going to become. Certainly, we've got to do a good job of giving him opportunities."
    • On Malik Willis: "I do think he's really grown. I think he's got good ownership of our offense and what we're trying to do."
    • Quay Walker will only do walkthrough stuff after being activated yesterday.
    • Said he thinks Isaiah Simmons' ideal spot for this defense is at strong side LB. Hinted that could be a nickel look for them (which would be a big nickel look for sure)
    • On how to keep the wideouts and tight ends happy with their target shares: "Winning."

Surprised no Walker read yesterday he passed his physical

I believe 12 personnel with the 1s so far has been Kraft/Musgrave, Doubs/Golden. For whatever it's worth at this point in time.
