Alex Turcotte becomes third Wisconsin Badgers player selected in top five of NHL draft; Cole Caufield taken 15th

Ok I know zero about hockey if these kids are picked in 1st round why are they still going to college? Would they not instead go to one of the NHL lower minor league hockey teams?
 
These guys going to college aren’t good enough to play in the NHL right away. They’d be in the minors for 2-4 years anyway. This way they get to go to college, play in a quality league, and when they come out after 4 years I believe they are basically free agents.
