There was one thing in Bobby Engram's interview today that I liked a lot. When asked about changes to the offense, he indicated that whatever they do on offense will be player driven.

I can't stress enough how important that one statement, that he repeated, is. You can only generate offense around the abilities of the players you have playing in the offense. You cannot create something that will work with players that can't make it work!

I get so tired of coaches who believe that "their offense must be exactly as they specify it on paper. If you haven't got the players to do the job, and if you do have, but they aren't your best players, you need to modify your approach, and make a game plan that fits the skill sets of the people you have. Your objective, within that framework, is to exploit weaknesses you've perceived in the opposition's defense, for specific plays within the plan you move forward.

When asked about specifics, he didn't hedge, he simply said he didn't know, and wouldn't, until they start to work together in building their future.

I'm beginning to like his approach, assuming he really intends bringing what he says to the table, and is actually capable of making a positive change on the field, and in recruiting. At least there's hope.
