Corbin Burnes threw 8 shutout innings with Josh Hader coming in for the 9th to get the Brewers first no hitter since April 1987 when Juan Nieves threw the only other Brewers no hitter in team history. In the game the Brewers nearly had a perfect game with Burnes allowing only 1 walk.

It's unfortunate that Burnes couldn't finish, but I get it. Burnes typically has high pitch counts and last night was no different. He tends to need a lot of pitches because batters don't make contact so you end up with a bunch of strikeouts that more typically need 4-5 pitches per batter. The math says you'll end up throwing 100 pitches by the 7th inning.

I get that there's a bigger picture at play here. But, 115 pitches... Give him the opportunity to
throw a few more to attempt hat no-no.

That said, the Brewers just had only their second no-hitter in franchise history! What a great year for them!

"Yeah with two pitchers, pffff"

Yeah but you don't want to take chance he gets hurt just to get a no-no. Brewers need him for the post season.

Will be interesting if Burnes will get much love in Cy Young voting. Max Scherzer might have that locked up.

Most of us that were disappointed about Counsell's decision got over it quickly since we understand the big picture.

Combined no-nos lack the thrill of watching one guy do it without any bullpen help. Brewer fans would have went nuts had Burnes done it! So the disappointment is legitimate. However, Counsell's correct. Throwing a no-no isn't the Brewers goal - winning the World Series is. Counsell has to ensure his pitchers are ready for an extra month of baseball.

Exactly. Arm fatigue is real and Burnes pitch count is high due to his K rate. Also high stress pitches unless necessary are not ideal in September.
