Former Packers WR Greg Jennings announces his retirement

Three years after departing Green Bay, the former Packer is hanging up the cleats for the last time.

On the day after two members of the Green Bay Packers’ Super Bowl-winning team entered the Packers Hall of Fame, another member of the team’s 2010 roster is hanging up the cleats. Wide receiver Greg Jennings, who was one of the key players in the Packers’ win in Super Bowl XLV, has announced his retirement:


Jennings started his career as a second-round draft pick of the Packers’ in 2006, and played his first two years with Brett Favre before Aaron Rodgers took over behind center. The high-water mark of Jennings’ first two years was this 82-yard touchdown on the first play of overtime in Denver:


Over seven years in Green Bay, Jennings racked up 425 catches for 6,537 yards (15.4 yards per catch) and 53 touchdowns. 2010 was his finest season, as he caught 76 balls for 1265 yards and 12 scores. He capped off that season by recording four receptions for 64 yards and two touchdowns in Super Bowl XLV, including this critical catch on third and ten in the fourth quarter after the Steelers had pulled to within three points at 28-25.

Of course, no Greg Jennings highlight package would be complete without his most famous appearance in the Madden video game franchise:


Jennings’ time in Green Bay concluded after an injury-plagued 2012 season, and he departed for Minnesota. After some controversial public comments about his tenure as a Packer, he played two seasons with the Vikings and one more with Miami last season, but never recaptured the heights that he reached in Green Bay.

Congratulations to Jennings, who concludes his career with 571 receptions, 8,291 yards, and 64 touchdowns.

Turned out lucky for the Packers as it probably would have not been the best deal long term. I think he left to get only a few million dollars more from MN though I think the real reason he left was Rodgers did not push the FO to resign him like he had with Nelson and Jones before.
 
He went after the $$$ most players do and I don't blame him
 
Also keep in mind GB knew Cobb was ready for more exposure and a bigger role in the offense at that time, Jennings knew that and it was - like all players - a blow to his ego. It was time. Greg was GREAT while in GB, arguably the finest route runner of the Favre/Rodgers era.
