Here’s Why Packers Didn’t Make Big Strike at Inside Linebacker

but getting back to the article . . . i think we could have and should have signed kwiatkoski (only half a million more than we are paying kirksey) or klein (half a million less than kirksey). forget the guaranteed money. if you keep a player for the entire term of their contract, all that matters is how much total you paid divided by the number of years. guarantees only matter if you give up on a player before the contract is up. the biggest risk is when you pay 6.5 million for a guy who is always injured.
Kirksey one year deal worth $4.125 million with $6 million option you can move on with only $2 million cap hit
Kwiatkoski one year deal worth $13.75 million with a $7 million option and $3.375 million cap hit.

So really both can be one year deals but have to pay $9.5 million more for that one year

but the likelihood of moving on from kirksey is a hundred times what the likelihood of moving on from kwiatkoski is. you have to take that into consideration. kirksey has only played 9 out of 32 games in the last two seasons. kwiatkoski has play in 32 of 32 games over the same period.

Bring back Clay Matthews. He said he's willing to play at a discount to retire as a Packer. That suggests he would be willing to play in the middle, imo. Kirksey and Matthews? Pretty good inside due imo.

Clay has been off the juice since the Mike Neal scandal, but he's still an upgrade over Martinez.

Hard no, don’t care what is dollar figure is. He’s at best a situational edge rusher. Stop with the bringing back of old “stars”. Matthews is not a 3 down player

it's so easy for people to just keep saying "hard no" to every suggestion. hard no to martinez because he can't cover. hard no to littleton because he's too expensive. hard no to schobert because he's too expensive. hard no to kwiatkoski because he's too expensive. hard no to a hard no to clay because he's too old (even though he had a pretty good season last year).

not one suggestion of a player that we should get no matter what he costs to fix the major hole we have on defense. kirksey was never the answer. we are likely to pay $4.1 million for a guy who will give us a third of a season at best. so what's better - a third of a season for $4.1 million or three full seasons for 21 million?

Or....Kirksey is due to put in a full year, where as Kwiat is due to get hurt?!?!?

I think and hope that Kirksey will make a lot of plays for us this year.
