Last year the defensive improvement coincided with his move inside. Move inside isn't accurate though, they moved him all over. It was way past time to use your best defensive player all over. Make the offense find him, alter their protection, move him somewhere else. I think it was too easy for teams to scheme for him when we just used him outside. He provided good pressure up the middle. He made more plays when he was moving around, but 66 Ray is right- the edge rushers gotta show up more consistently.

Totally agree. It was pretty obvious that Matthews was getting stonewalled when he was playing outside, cuz they always knew where he was. He seems much more open to the idea of playing inside part of the time, in particular since his sack numbers went up.
