The Packers and Buccaneers will take the field this Sunday with a trip to the Super Bowl on the line.

This will be just the second time Green Bay and Tampa Bay have played in the postseason. The only other meeting took place in the 1997 Divisional Playoff, with the Packers winning, 21-7, at Lambeau Field.
This will mark the first postseason matchup between teams who are led by Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady. Rodgers ranks No. 2 in NFL history with eight games with multiple touchdown passes and zero interceptions in 19 starts while Brady holds the No. 1 spot with 13 games in 43 starts.
It will be the fourth time that Rodgers and Brady have faced off as starting quarterbacks, with Brady's teams holding a 2-1 advantage.
Back in the NFC Championship

Sunday will be the ninth time Green Bay has played in the NFC title contest since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger.

It will be the third time (2007 and 1996) that Lambeau Field will host the NFC Championship.
This will be Green Bay's fourth NFC Championship appearance since 2014 (2014, 2016, 2019), the most in the NFC over that span. No other NFC team has advanced to the conference title game more than once since 2014.
It marks the first time since 1995-97 that Green Bay has appeared in consecutive NFC title games.
The team's first appearance in the NFC Championship came in 1995, when it traveled to Dallas. Green Bay held a fourth-quarter lead, but the Cowboys used two fourth-quarter rushing touchdowns from Emmitt Smith to end Green Bay's season for the third straight year.
The Packers reached the NFC title game again the following year, hosting the first title game at Lambeau Field since the 'Ice Bowl.' The Packers overcame two early deficits to defeat the Panthers, 30-13, for their first Super Bowl appearance in 29 years. They would go on to beat New England in the Super Bowl.
In '97, the Packers reached the title game for the third consecutive season, this time traveling to San Francisco. Green Bay built a comfortable 13-3 lead on a rain-soaked afternoon in an eventual 23-10 win as it bounced the 49ers from the playoffs for the third straight year.
In '07, the Packers hosted the Giants in the third-coldest contest in championship game history with a game-time temperature of minus-1 and wind chill of minus-23. Lawrence Tynes sent New York to the Super Bowl with a 47-yard field goal in overtime for the Giants' 23-20 victory.
In the '10 NFC Championship, Green Bay beat longtime division-rival Chicago, 21-14. In a game that included five interceptions, Packers DT B.J. Raji helped seal the victory with an 18-yard interception return for a touchdown that put Green Bay up, 21-7, with just over six minutes remaining. The Packers went on to beat the Pittsburgh Steelers for the club's fourth Super Bowl and 13th NFL championship.
The Packers played at Seattle in the 2014 NFC Championship. After Green Bay took a 16-0 lead into halftime, the Seahawks outscored the Packers, 22-6, in the second half to force OT, and won on the first possession of extra time, 28-22.
Green Bay's last two NFC Championship appearances were road losses to Atlanta in 2016 (44-21) and San Francisco in 2019 (37-20).

THE PACKERS-BUCCANEERS SERIES

From the second meeting in 1992 through the first meeting in 1998, the Packers won 12 of 13 contests. The Bucs' lone win in that stretch came in overtime (Dec. 10, 1995).

Imagine how many times over his career Tom Brady has heard, You would never get to a Super Bowl without Bill Belichick .

Now imagine Tom Brady's motivation to prove every single one of those people/haters wrong on Sunday. Goats are usually highly motivated by stuff like that. That makes me extremely nervous about this game. Also doesn't help they beat us by 4 touchdowns and Rodgers was running for his life all day when we played them in week 6.

Annoying to think we could have faced Drew Brees and his 42 year old noodle arm trying to make plays in 20 degree weather.

GB 31 TB 27 but it won't be easy.

I expect a much more competitive game than the first time around obviously. Being at home in the cold weather should help. I am expecting a battle though, would say I am a bit less confident than most on here. Tampa's D is really the only one to really rattle Rodgers and the offense this season and weird **** always seems to happen when we play them in recent times.

Some thoughts from friends in Tampa
-Brady is making the read at the line to go after single coverage based on defensive looks. Did it at least 3 times vs. Saints.
-Time to throw has been shortened due to philosophy & play call changes.
-Better run game calls vs. expected looks.
-Aside from RG, the rest of the line is 100% healthy.

Long story short the offense has really improved the last 4-5 weeks with Brady getting more comfortable and some changes. Adding Brown has helped some but 87 also seems more involved

Both teams are different than week 6 so avoiding making that type of comparison. Some other thoughts

-Fournette is running better, not what he was but still productive
-White and David might be the best / fastest sideline to sideline LB in the league. Slower turf will help but have to find a way to neutralize speed
-Winfield is really playing well in the secondary, that group is really physical. Have to get Lazard, MVS and ESB some easy releases off the line
-Tonyan has to play well. Washington and NOLA got some space with TE’s and he only had 4 targets in week 6
-The Smiths were invisible in week 6. They both need to show up

This is going to be damn close and at the same time a much different game than week 6. Both teams are much better, especially Tampa on offense and GB on defense.

It's Brady in a conference title game. I really want him to lose but... how do you bet against him?

I don't know, seems like a bad match up for us, or at least the hardest possible matchup in terms of their D versus our O.

Then there's this, from the Athletic:

"Teams who have defeated an opponent by at least 20 points in the regular season and then played again in that season’s conference championship game are 13-3 all-time and 4-0 in the last 10 seasons"

Tom Brady is 8-0 vs Mike Pettine defenses

Bucs 31 Packers 27

I wish I could be confident on this one. I can't. Anyone but Brady coming into GB would have been toast.

I'll still be watching it, and wincing every time the Bucs have a good play on either side of the ball.

Packers own the game. Rodgers is introduced by Brady after the game to his kids as their new daddy.
