A quick run through of the last few days on the Wisconsin recruiting scene.
As summer approaches and the recruiting cycle kicks into higher gear, Wisconsin's camps are heating up. B5Q published a Q&A for the next series of camps in Madison with BadgerBlitz.com's John McNamara earlier Sunday morning. Below, we'll recap the latest with a variety of UW targets and offers from this week.
To start, Homewood (Homewood-Flossmoor), Ill., defensive back Kendric Pryor was surprised ($) this week when he heard that Wisconsin was going to be giving him an offer. Wisconsin joins Iowa as the only two schools who are recruiting Pryor as a defensive back; the rest hope to have him at receiver.
Badgers give Maryland safety Jake Funk first power-five offer
Wisconsin became the first power-five team to offer Demascus, Md., safety/running back Jake Funk. Previously Funk received offers from smaller schools including Ohio, Navy, Army, and a few Ivy League schools. Funk plans to attend Wisconsin's camp this weekend and Stanford's the following week.
️ With Funk listed as 5'11, 190 pounds, the Badgers would most likely convert him to inside linebacker. What might be represented as a bit of a size disadvantage is made up for by Funk's football instincts. He has great decision making on defense and is full speed ahead once he locates the ball carrier.
Wisconsin in Naseir Upshur's top 11
The Badgers have successfully made it through another checkpoint in Naseir Upshur's recruiting process when the four-star tight end out of Philadelphia (Imhotep Institution Charter High School) announced that that Wisconsin had made his top 11. Along with the Badgers, Upshur included schools such as Alabama, Michigan and South Carolina. Michigan, South Carolina, and Florida State would also instantly make his next cut. In-state DL receives offer from Badgers
Amherst, Wis., defensive tackle Tyler Biadasz picked up an offer from Wisconsin this weekend after standing out at the school's camp. McNamara reported that Biadasz separated himself from the pack during last weekend's camp. Wisconsin is the first power-five team to offer Biadasz, although he has attracted interest from other Big Ten schools including Iowa and Minnesota.
While Biadasz plays defensive end in high school, he'd most likely be converted to defensive tackle for the Badgers. He has great lower-body strength and can drive the offensive line off the ball. He could stand to improve his lateral quickness, especially if the Badgers happen to keep him at end. Nonetheless, there is a lot of promise for this in-state player.
