Which recruits might surprise the Wisconsin coaching staff over the next two weekends?

Last weekend started the summer camp session for the Wisconsin Badgers, and BadgerNation.com's Ben Worgull highlighted last week's camp recruits.

This Sunday brings a new crop of high school talent to the confines of Camp Randall Stadium full of players trying to turn the heads of head coach Paul Chryst and his coaching staff.

To help dissect Sunday's and next week's camp participants, along with other recruiting news, BadgerBlitz.com's Jon McNamara joined us for a little Q&A.

Who are some of the big names heading into this weekend's and next weekend's camps?

Jon McNamara (JM): Last weekend's camp featured more offer-caliber prospects, but there should be a handful of intriguing athletes on campus over the next two weekends.

The headliner in Madison this weekend is Jake Funk, a 5'11, 198-pound athlete who already received a scholarship from assistant coach Daronte Jones this spring. The high school running back from Maryland, who rushed for close to 2,000 yards as a junior, is expected to work at inside linebacker Sunday.

Illinois tight end Noah Turner is also someone to keep a close eye on. The three-star prospect already has a healthy offer sheet and the Badgers could join the mix if he performs well. Should Wisconsin offer, expect the Badgers to immediately be a big player in Turner's recruitment.

Three-star Michigan wide receiver Bailey Edwards and two-star Indiana defensive tackle Jasion Brogan -- who visited this spring -- is expected back in Madison, along with in-state prospects Conner Edmonds and Alex Orvis, among others.

The following weekend, Wisconsin legacy Brandon Burks plans to make the trip from Ohio, as well as Illinois tight end Matt Prendergast. In-staters Alvin Burris, Jerard Swan, T.J. Garrity (2017), Gabe Rasmussen and Hunter Topel are also on the camp list. Garrity could emerge as one of the top in-state prospects in his class.

Among the players this weekend at Wisconsin's camp, are there any potential recruits on commitment watch?

JM: I'd be surprised if Wisconsin picked up a commitment this weekend, but there's a chance the staff could wrap things up with Funk. UW is his only Power-Five offer at this point, though Funk doesn't appear to be in any hurry. Stanford, Virginia and Northwestern, among others, are also showing strong interest.

Pennsylvania (McKeesport High School) teammates Tymar Sutton and Khaleke Hudson were also expected on campus this weekend, though it looks like that visit will now begin Monday, according to a tweet by Sutton. With the staff's connections to that state, Wisconsin could position itself well with both prospects during the visit.

Are there any potential sleepers out of those in Madison this weekend or next that could wind up with a Wisconsin offer?

JM: There's always someone unexpected who shines at camp. Last weekend, Kamal Martin, Brett Borske, Willie Ross and Alfonzo Lambert emerged and it will be interesting to see who flashes at Camp Randall on Sunday.

Running back James Robinson, who has offers from Iowa and Illinois State, is a prospect who falls into this category. The Badgers are pretty set at the position with Antonio Williams, but Robinson has the potential to turn some heads. And though he hasn't hammered out a camp date just yet, Desmond Bland, an offensive lineman from Illinois, is a potential sleeper.

Besides those at camp this weekend, are there any recruits Badgers fans should be on the lookout to commit to Wisconsin or elsewhere?

JM: Decisions are nearing for Illinois defensive tackle targets Mike Panasiuk and Naquan Jones, but both appear headed to Michigan State, which is putting together an awfully impressive 2016 class.

I think Wisconsin will be able to wrap things up with in-state tackle Cole Van Lanen in the near future. The three-star prospect will focus his attention on recruiting after the state track meet this weekend. Michigan is probably UW's biggest threat it his recruitment.

Out-of-state linebackers Noah Burks and Griffin Grady could also pop this month. Maryland and Northwestern, respectively, are in the top two, along with the Badgers, for each prospect.

The staff will likely make some decisions on the offensive linemen who participated in camp last weekend. In-state standouts Sam Heckel, Mike Caliendo and Spencer Kanz should learn about their offer status relatively soon. Caliendo and Heckel, in particular, would jump on a Wisconsin scholarship. And I'd also pay close attention to Sam Brodner, who performed very well at the same camp and could in line for an offer.

Finally, the Badgers' specialists camp will be important later this month with the staff looking to take a scholarship punter. Georgia's Blake Gillikin, who was in town for the spring game, is arguably the top prospect expected to participate.

Can any of these kids play QB? ;)

None of these kids, but they do already have a 2016 QB commit named Kare Lyles, from Arizona. He's solid, but not particularly highly regarded by the scouting/recruiting sites.

There is some cynical speculation out there though that they showed interest in him to maybe entice his brother, a stud OT, who is in next year's class. It's probably just as likely because he's decent QB and a "legacy kid". The father played for Barry in the early 90's.
