Wisconsin hockey adds fourth signee to fall class

Wisconsin men’s hockey coach Tony Granato announced Monday that Swedish defenseman, Philip Nyberg has signed to play hockey in Madison this upcoming fall.

According to a statement released by the team, Nyberg, who is from Kalskrona, Sweden, joins Wisconsin after playing all of last year for Linköping HC J20 in Sweeden’s SuperElit leaugue.

Granato was quoted in the release commenting on the new addition.

“He is a very athletic, explosive skater, his first two steps are really good. He’s also a quality person from a quality family with great character.”

Nyberg, who is listed as 6’3″ and 192 pounds, managed to net four goals and 14 assists in 45 regular season games he played in last year.

He joins Jack Berry, Johan Blomquist and JD Greenway as the fourth signee of the spring for the incoming Badger hockey recruiting class.
