With Pick 2 in the 2025 Draft GB Selects North Carolina State OT Anthony Belton

We are all correct to be concerned with Gute OL drafting. Since 2018 these are his picks

Cole Madison
Jon Runyan Jr
Jake Hanson
Simon Stepaniak
Elgton Jenkins
Josh Myers
Royce Newman
Cole Van Lanen
Sean Rhyan
Zach Tom
Rasheed Walker
Jordan Morgan
Jacob Monk
Travis Glover
Anthony Belton

Only two HR pick among this group is Jenkins and Zach Tom. Then had a few picks of average OL in Runyan, Myers, Rhyan, and Walker. Though none of those average guys seem good enough to earn a 2nd contract from GB. After that you have Morgan, Monk, Glover, Belton with to early to tell grades on them.

So then after Rhyan and Walker likely leave after this upcoming season out of 11 guys who went thru their rookie deals only 2 players got a second contract with the team. That is not good drafting.

I just don't see Belton as an OT. Taking a conversion project like this in Rd 2 seems like a misuse of draft capital. I mocked him to the Packers in Rd3 though I thought he could last until Rd4, because of the likely conversion.

Hopefully he can be an OG. It seems with the Banks signing that they want to get bigger at OG. I'm starting to think maybe ML is playing a part in this direction change because these "big" guys seem to go a bit against the grain of the TT/Gute mold at OL. Either way, for everyone's sake, I hope it works, but I have doubts.

Tom S. reporting no change in plans with Jaire, they're still looking to move him and won't be on roster in 2025. Makes this all the more of a roster head scratcher.

People clearly unhappy with this one for different reasons. Personally I like this player more than I liked Jordan Morgan last year. I'm always hopeful with picks but I didn't like Jordan Morgan because he gave me Jason Spriggs sort of vibes, I thought he wouldn't have the strength to hold up any time soon. Everyone always wants to say "oh move him to guard" about tackles but I just don't see that for Morgan, if he can't work at tackle then it's a complete fail. At least with Belton I see a clear path to RG for him early on.

I totally get there are people who wouldn't like this player at any price. For me it's not the player or even the round, it's the opportunity cost of passing on a viable, starting corner prospect in favor of anyone else, really. Oh well.

Since you put it out there, I dislike the pick for these reasons:

First he doesn't score as a 2nd round talent to me, the " so and so was going to pick him" excuse I keep reading is crap, we can say that about every pick but face it that's purely specultive. Overreached.

Second, I checked with Sammy Brown, as stated before, Sammy plays at Clemson, and they beat this guy like a drum all day.( he said good luck about him) Additionally, I happen to have a friend and contact who is a NC State alum and saw this guy his whole college career. His take was an average player with a bad attitude ( he did get kicked out of a couple of games). So no positive feedback from folks that know him or played against him.

Third, and it's to RP point, we left a starting CB whom we really need in Amos on the board. No matter your counter to this, it's a huge no-no to leave a starter on the board for a maybe, but we did just that.

I rest my case.
