Well, after finding out they consider $$ and ML comments that they had a "contingency plan" days ago, that seems most likely unless he had someone in the loop already.

Covington is the most risky hire. Failed DC in NE if this defense takes a step back would ML fire him or would ML keep him on since ML is known to refuse to fire coaches and just keep them on until he's pretty much forced to remove them from his staff.

If your goal is to creatively use Micah around the LOS then hiring from the Flores tree makes a lot of sense.
