I wish I could be optimistic, but I see a lot of guys leaving GB, and nobody coming in. Even if we do see Thompson make FA signings, they're probably going to be camp bodies, to compete, and make others work harder.
Free agency, this year, is hurting us a great deal. We started out looking at the draft as a place where we could strengthen the defense. We definitely needed CBs. Now, with Shields gone, and Hyde out as a FA, we've lost a CB and a hybrid S/CB as well. The situation is worse.
It doesn't end there. It looks like a revolving door leaving GB on offense. Lang is as good as gone. Tretter is gone. Who did we resign? Barclay. (I'll post some more as soon as I quit crying! Gawd!) That's it. We got him to stick around. Didn't exactly create a reason to prepare a Super Bowl party.
We've lost 40% of our offensive line. Now that becomes a priority, and the stark reality of it is that Tretter would have been the better choice to keep at center than Linsley. We're going to see Rodgers hit way too often.
So, which is higher priority? Get guys on offense who can protect Rodgers, or find CBs? Unless Thompson does something, this team could be in serious trouble. He should have been either looking to keep people, or looked for FAs who could do the job.
