Rodgers Wants Out

I think so. I’ve been pretty consistent that I don’t think money solves this. I could be very wrong but I think it’s just a band aid or this would have been old news already.
money might fix it for one more season. that would probably be the best result for both parties.

Maybe. It’s so fragile that declines in skills , injury, just overall team play might decrease some of his market value. What we don’t know is how dug in each side is now. And then there is the distraction factor knowing he’s a lame duck

From The Athletic FWIW (McGinn article )

As strange as it might seem, agent David Dunn has said that the straw that broke the camel’s back for his client was the team’s decision to release Jake Kumerow in early September less than 24 hours after Rodgers said on SiriusXM radio how much he valued having the wide receiver on the roster.

Shortly before the NFL trade deadline in November, Rodgers told reporters he didn’t want to lobby for a wide receiver because “the last time I did that, they ended up in Buffalo.”

According to sources, Rodgers has mocked Gutekunst in group chats with his teammates in Green Bay by referring to the GM as Jerry Krause. The late Krause, the general manager of the Chicago Bulls during their run of six NBA championships, was loathed by Michael Jordan for some personnel moves with which Jordan disagreed.

This is going to be a messy divorce, but I believe it will end in divorce. I don't see anything the Packers can do, except dump Gutekunst, that will make Rodgers happy.

Nothing will happen until after June 1. In the meantime, speculation will be all over the place.

Yeah last season certainly busted the narrative about him, there were still questions about his level of play and his future abilities. Now? There are questions the other way. I guess that's really what it comes down to for GB - do they really think he can perform like that again? How likely is that?

On the one hand you have Tom Brady, who is doing things that no one has ever done before as a QB or even as an NFL player. On the other hand, you have some historical analogs:

  • Peyton Manning, threw 55 TDs for Denver at age 37, threw 39 at age 38, then 9 at age 39 and retired
  • Brett Favre, threw 22 TDs with the Jets at age 39, 33 TDs in that great year with Minny at age 40, but then 11 the next year and retired
Looking around, there aren't a ton of other examples of QBs playing consistently at a very high level through their late-30's. At some point something usually snaps - Drew Brees remained productive but he had trouble staying healthy.

Is Rodgers more like Brady, or more like everyone else? Somewhere in between I guess, but the chances are he has 2-3 productive years left, maybe one more really good one. If GB wants to trade him at some point, the odds are that his value will not be higher than it is this year.

The big difference, of course, is that unlike Rodgers, Michael Jordan was a winner.

And that’s why I am on the trade him now bandwagon. It’s about value and doing what’s best for the organization.

Then screw Rodgers. If he wants to keep crappy talent on the roster just because they are his friends instead of best talent get the cancer off the team and let him go put that poision on another team.
