One of the bowl games between teams in Power 5 conferences with the largest contrast in styles may be the Holiday Bowl on December 30th, when the Wisconsin Badgers take on the University of Southern California Trojans at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, California.
Wisconsin had their chance at perhaps being invited to a bowl game of more prominence, but a late season loss to Northwestern knocked the Badgers to an overall record of 9-3, which was good for third in the West of the Big 10 conference. Wisconsin had to swallow a tough 10-6 loss to the Iowa Hawkeyes and a loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide in the season opener but have been solid otherwise, especially in their 10-point road win against Minnesota Golden Gopher to finish the season.
On the secondary market, Wisconsin tickets for the bowl game have an average price of $161.05 and a get-in price of $62 according to SeatSmart.com. It was not this way about two weeks ago, as the average ticket price has been steadily declining as the date of the game approaches. On December 6th the average ticket price was $216.63 and dropped in price for seven consecutive days when reaching a $169.64 on December 13th. It has mainly plateaued since then, moving a couple of dollars in each direction until the price recorded as of this writing.
Obviously it will be easier for USC fans to attend the game in California, as the Trojans’ campus is less than 130 miles from the home of the San Diego Chargers (estimated). For those attending, Qualcomm Stadium parking is available through ParkWhiz.com to help with entering and leaving the venue on game day.
The USC Trojans had an up-and-down season, finishing 8-5 and winning the Pac-12 South division. Earlier in the season, USC lost three out of four games and lost their head coach due to resigning from personal problems, but the Trojans regrouped under new leadership and won five of their last seven games. However, the Trojans are coming off a loss as they struggled in the Pac-12 Championship Game against Stanford, losing 41-22.
