full confession: my dad had the carpenters greatest hits on reel-to-reel tape and i used to play that tape over and over when i was a kid. i credit the carpenters with unintentionally turning me onto rock music with their song "goodbye to love", which had this amazing fuzz guitar solo at the end accompanied by the incredible vocal harmonies that the carpenters were so good at. i still tear up when i hear that song and think about how karen's life ended way too soon.my wife does some consulting work for a media company here in Dallas that does a lot of Documentaries, many of which are bios - and quite often we get invited to the premiers. They did an awesome one on Lucille Ball (for REELZ network) a few years back, and the last one we attended last year was a series of 3 on "Mysteries of Oz - 85 questions". But my favorite is the one they did on Karen Carpenter a few years back - prior bios on her were significantly "framed" by her brother, but this one really told the true story. To me, she's the voice of Christmas - even more so than Bing.
