Mike McCarthy cooks up new perimeter coach role for Packers

Interesting job title. It all goes back to the days they lost their true offensive perspective when Joe Philbin left for Miami. He'd kept everyone pulling in the same direction, and people outside GB knew it. When he left, the wheels came off, and even the Tom Clement thing was pre-ordained, because he wasn't a "yes man," and had always been able to go to Philbin who was the offensive coaches choice for go-between with McCarthy.

I believe that McCarthy is searching for answers, and wants someone on staff who can condense the problems for him, and be the go between to make things work.

What I say next is not a political statement, but a comparison. McCarthy is a lot like Trump because he expects his coaches to do exactly what he wants, how he wants it done, and when he wants it done, without asking questions. Philbin was able to insulate the other coaches from that philosophy, by tempering what McCarthy wanted with reality.

On defense, since McCarthy seems pretty much clueless, he's relied on Capers to fill the role that Philbin had on offense.

Just my opinion here, but if you think about it, that's why his offensive coaching staff got so top heavy. The loss of Philbin. On defense, Capes running his own little "mini-empire."
