The Green Bay Packers take on the Minnesota Vikings at Lambeau Field on Sunday at 12 p.m. CDT, marking the second straight year, and the third time in the last four years (2016), that the Packers play the Vikings in Week 2.

It marks the second year in a row but just the fourth time (2003, 2008, 2018) since the NFC North was formed in 2002 that Green Bay has played division opponents in both of the first two games.
The Packers have scored 23-plus points in 11 of the last 13 home games vs. Minnesota.
Green Bay has won four of the last six home September contests against the Vikings. Last year’s September matchup ended in a 29-29 tie.
Of the past 33 regular-season meetings between the teams, 22 of those games have been decided by seven points or less, including both contests last season.

Through 117 meetings, which includes two postseason contests (1-1), the Packers hold a 60-54-3 edge over the Vikings in the all-time series.
Including playoffs, Green Bay has a 7-3-2 mark (.667) against the Vikings at Lambeau Field since 2008.
Green Bay is 4-1-1 in the last six home September contests against the Vikings.
The Packers look to win their first two home games of the season for the sixth time in the last seven years.

Green Bay begins a three-game stretch of home games, marking the first time the Packers have played three straight at home in September since 1990 (Weeks 1-3). It will be three home games in 12 days for the Packers, only the second time in team history (2016) that the team has had three home contests over a 12-day period.
Five of the next six games for Green Bay will be played at home.
This is the third straight year that the Packers have three home games in the month of September.

RODGERS AND THE VIKINGS

Including the postseason, Green Bay is 12-8-1 against Minnesota with Aaron Rodgers as the starting quarterback.

In 21 games as the starter against the Vikings (including playoffs), Rodgers has completed 449 of 660 passes (68.0 percent) for 5,307 yards, 42 TDs and six INTs with a passer rating of 109.7. His passer rating is the second highest of any opposing quarterback (min. 100 att.) vs. Minnesota (Kurt Warner, 112.4), according to pro-football-reference.com.

Rodgers has recorded a 100-plus passer rating in 12 of his 21 starts against the Vikings (including the postseason) and a rating of 94-plus in 15 contests.

Rodgers has recorded seven games with a passer rating of 130-plus against Minnesota, the most by a quarterback in NFL history against one opponent (according to the Elias Sports Bureau).

In the last 15 games versus Minnesota (including playoffs), Rodgers has thrown 20 touchdowns and three interceptions.

Rodgers is the only player to have four games with four-plus touchdown passes with zero interceptions against the Vikings. No other quarterback has more than two.

I suppose Cousins is a step up from Trubitsky. Dalton Cook is the real deal too.

the defense played great against that mediocre bears offense. the bears only got past midfield a couple times.

the vikings have a much more potent offense. i don't expect our defense to hold them to 3 points. which means our offense better play a lot better.

Cousins does not scare me this defense can stop him. Cook is the one that really worries me

Much different Minnesota offense. OL is better, Cook is healthy, Cousins has time to throw

I don't know that the OL is better. Their interior got their asses handed to them by ATL, but their running scheme and Cook's brilliance make it a moot point. We will be a different test for them, our starting OLBs are much better at setting an edge than Atlanta's, we'll be on grass and they will be on the road. Bigger difficulty IMO is that Cousins isn't a slouch, they have two outstanding WR and they have two Y TE's that can in theory kill you off play action. It's just a really good offensive set-up.

On offense, man we need to be better. I think for their own confidence they need to move the ball and score some points, but at least just move the ball. Last week you go into Chicago and win 10-3 on opening night in front of a hostile crowd and a defense foaming at the mouth, and despite the poor output, all is forgiven. If they lose this week at home 14-10, there are going to be questions.

This will be tight game with 2 minutes left Vikings get a late TD to tie the game at 21-21 but Rodgers moves them down field enough to set up a 40 yard FG for the win

Packers 24
Vikings 21

Vikings O is better than Bears O
Vikings D is worse than Bears D (but still very good)

They will score more than 3 points on GB. MLF & Rodgers will need to get the offense unstuck to keep pace. Early season & division games are often a coin toss.

I don't miss Mike Daniels or Nick Perry. Nagy didn't run enough but the GB run D seems ok so far.
If GB can put MIN in a lot of 3rd and long downs like they did with CHI, and the secondary stays healthy it could push Cousins into a bad mistake.

A lot of it, as usual, comes down to Rodgers and unlocking Zimmer's D.
