I get all that and agree with most of it but I'm talking about a culture change. Go after the offenses like it's the 1st quarter because what do you have to lose? Your prevent isn't preventing anything. Just play your regular D and attack. The soft coverage and keep things in front is not working very well, imo. You would be no worse for wear if you just called your regular defense and roll with the results.
We play so many sub packages I am not sure it makes a difference who is out there and when. It’s not so much a cultural change as it is philosophical. I get the concept of playing single high safety or quarters coverage (assuming that’s the call) so you don’t get beat over the top. I also get the frustration but 30 other teams run the same philosophy. We are not an attacking defense for a reason. Bottom line the clock is your friend.

If this was a one off, I wouldn't be as concerened.

Totally agree. I get the "It's only game one of a 16 game season in a wacky 2020 season", but it seems more like a trend from last year. I guess we'll wait and see how it all plays out but I'm not holding my breath. It was a nice win against Minny and a win is a win in this league.

Why not just line up and let the dogs loose and if it results in a big chunk play then so be it.

i wonder if the reason they don't do that is that they feel it is more likely to result in injuries? because i agree with you that the prevent defense never ever works to prevent scores. i hate it with a passion.

Only 2 guys (Smiths) are the only difference makers

i respectfully disagree. jaire is a difference maker. clark is a difference maker. i'm not really sure how many difference makers you have to have on a defense before it is better than average though.

It’s an NFL trend / philosophy for decades not exclusive to GB.

He’s not a shut down corner. He’s an above average defender. Clark I get the debate. Get better than average? Solid ILB, More production at safety, depth all over, can’t play these guys multiple snaps before they hit the wall. All the things we discussed pre draft and each of the last 4-5 seasons beating a dead horse.

My biggest concern with the defense is their inability to make short yardage stops. Based on the Vikings game, and their making 3 two-point conversions, if I was the opposition, 4th and 3 or less inside the Packers 40 would probably be a go for it moment if we didn't desperately need a FG.

I understand that without Clark we have a problem, and I call that a top priority.

I humbly apologize. I actually started this ‘Prevent Discussion’. Didn’t want it to annoy anyone. It just seems like the Packers have been doing this for years. I got a bit frustrated with it Sunday.

But I’m always happy when we beat the Vikings! I just wish it was by 30 points. The offense gave them a chance to do just that. But...here comes the really bad prevent........ FP(

I’ll try to lock into the victory more and not worry so much about the defensive shortcomings. But I do agree wholeheartedly with Bud about wanting to see a new culture! thumbsup
