As expected, the UW System Board of Regents on Wednesday morning approved a contract with the former Badgers football player to be only the third UW athletic director in the past 32 years.

The only thing I fear is that somewhere along the line, the edges get smeared without outside influence, and the system goes stagnant by being inbred. Let's hope that doesn't happen to us.

The reality of it is most AD’s are judged by who they hire in high profile athletics. Richter was blasted by more than a couple of boosters when he hired Ryan. That worked out ok To the vast majority of the general population fund raising is not even on the radar. For better or for worse Wisconsin has been the pillar of consistency and keeping things “in house”. Just look at the staffs in football and basketball. On the plus side Kohl and The Camp are solid facilities, the south end zone project looks on track, now just sell the suites and seats. On the flip side, we lost a lot of “clout” on both a conference and national scale, facilities while good need to upgrade. I would have preferred a Pollard type but the trend in college athletics is to keep it in house. This was a “comfort level “ hire on a few levels. Just look who was on the committee
