I believe we're going to see a 12 team playoff for the national championship. It stands to reason. Like they said, that would guarantee the conference champions from the big 5 to be automatic, plus a couple of others. That would leave room for 5 at-large teams, which would work for teams like Notre Dame, and some smaller conferences, who might have a team that is registering as talented enough to be there.
I've believed, for a long time, it was coming. I think it's an interesting concept, where you'd have first round byes, and a play in of the lower 8 teams for play in the quarter finals. That would mean 4 weeks of playoffs. I can see four bowl games getting the nod for the 8 teams being part of those games, and then three weeks following with fairly large national audiences.
This would mean a total of 11 games devoted to the playoffs. As for money? I have no idea how much it would add to the coffers of each playoff team, their conferences, and game wide for all teams. Packinatl would be the person with the best handle on that.
