Rodgers Wants Out

The difference between two Cali guys and two ol’ southern boys giving each other gifts.

Tim McGraw’s F131 HELLCAT MOTORCYCLE, 2007 by Curtiss Motors (estimate: $30,000-50,000). A gift from long-time friend NFL quarterback and Hall of Famer Brett Favre, the bike boasts 137 horsepower and is equipped with a vast array of must-have features.

Who ever took a discount to go to GB? Two players cited by Rodgers as being disrespected by GB were Woodson and Peppers, both (in)famously only came to GB because they offered the most money and then liked it. Z Smith and Amos had no idea where they were going until their agents told them who offered the most money. GB has always had to overpay to get UFAs in. What is this fantasy that players were begging to come play with Rodgers for a discount?
I know Pack commented on how these players were treated on the way out. I agree with RP here, the Packers overpaid a few UFA's, but many of the players AR mentioned were overpaid in their 2nd contract in order to keep them here. And then they expect a huge contract at the end of their careers; and when they resigned with other teams at more money, very few produced. We overpaid good players during their prime, but then are ruthless with them at the end of their careers.

That’s not something GB invented by the way, it’s how any team with half a brain has operated since the dawn of UFA. The players of course don’t like it when they or their buddies get thrown to the curb and it is cruel but not unusual. Just that in this case, in exchange for his football services for one more year, Packer brass gave Rodgers an open mic and a free pass to crap on them and the way the league does business to the media whenever he wants.

Exactly, and if one team is willing to pay them more, then the team they leave is thought to be in the wrong.
I'm not sure if the Packers knew he was going to go off on them to the level he did, and what he did certainly didn't help his relationship with team management.

I'm on record with saying I would have traded Rodgers draft day and afterwards.

But, me thinks many have gone overboard on the Rodgers is a CA diva guy. I think he's pretty arrogant and has an ego. But name me a super successful quarterback without an ego besides Bart Starr. Favre had a super sized ego - he just liked stuff that you guys like. Rodgers likes things that are different than what you like - so do I. How many of you love Rugby, singing and playing an uke off key, and drinking High Lives.

Rodgers said he didn't like the way his fellow players were treated on their way out. He didn't say they had to be signed at all costs.

Yes, it's a business. But, there is a horrible communication problem from the front office. And, the front office is treating the players like checkers to be scrapped until some piece like Rodgers made it to the end of the board and said King Me.

Relook at what he said. The guys he's talking about were here one day and kicked out the next.

Hell when I left my firm 1.3 years ago, my bosses all came and talked to me and wished me well.

The Packers on the other hand don't even talk to their guys. They don't even have a conversation thanking them for their service, tell them they'd like to keep them, but performance, age, or salary cap means its time that the Pack has to move on. Personally, I think the players deserve that - and I don't think they get it from the Pack.

I've got broad shoulders. I can take the disagreement. But I doubt Rodgers is the horrible diva he's made out to be.

And, I bet the players are on his side, have his back, and will follow his lead.

I disagree Keg.
I think it’s SOP that every player gets an exit visit.
They have to turn in their playbooks among other things, so there has to be interaction.
Just because there isn’t a “public mic”, like AR had the other day, with players before each leaves doesn’t mean they haven’t had a face-to-face before they left.

to many Packer homer fans act like Yeah Rodgers is right Packers did not treat guys right for all they did. This is a business. Not a charity to let fan favorites hang around as long as they want to and collect a check. When you are washed up and not earning your pay you go. Can't keep guys forever.

It's not out of the question to believe that Gutey and ML are on the same page. Some assume that the GM is just drafting football players, with no attention to current roster or current needs of a particular system. It would be career suicide for a GM to not draft players that can fit the HCs system. That's just my opinion.

On the flip side the reaction from players such as Charles Woodson , Steve Young and Kyler Murray to name a few have been supportive of the way Rodgers spoke and I’m just speculation here many in the league probably have the same opinion he does. To me, his tone was not the rational of guys who were released but more the communication in the process. As I mentioned in a previous post his presser was actually refreshing, no BS, canned crap. I wish more in all sports would do it
