2022 Badger Football Thread

Not a big worry. Portal and grad transfer is always an option
Yeah 2023 likely to redshirt anyways. As Mertz is senior next year and then good chance Hill could be given chance to start in 2024.

Pro style QBs see Wisconsin as a run centric program. They don't want to be the guy who hands it to guys, they want to be the guy who throws it to them. There may be some mid-range kid out there who sees it as a way to break out from the pack though, and takes the chance.

Perception vs reality unfortunately.

WI has been run first team for 30 years and unlikely to change anytime soon. Will always have to fight for those kids. Same way we don't get those top recurit WR's mostly as they want to be in program were they will see lots of passes.

Again perception vs reality. It’s been close to a 50/50 run pass balance. In 2019 Coan threw the ball more than Taylor ran it. As to recruiting we have been down that rabbit hole

If Mertz was having an enormous career at Wisconsin, some of the best QBs in the nation would be looking at it as an option. Since he isn't, and he was considered a top recruit, they're going to be hesitant on pulling the trigger. Like Fla said. Perception.

That said, we have no idea what happens next with Mertz, but we will find out in a few months. If things don't go well, we might end up seeing the Deacon Hill era at QB sooner than we thought might happen.

I'm not going to predict anything on Hill, because I haven't seen him perform. They say he has a huge arm, and can zip the ball. Also, big, strong, and can shed tacklers.
