Our View: Rand is easily one of the best recruits of the 2016 class for the Badgers, and a quick view of his film shows why. He plays with great intensity, great pad level and never gives up on a play. Those qualities have usually translated very well at Wisconsin.

The Badgers had to fight off UCLA at the end for the 4-star recruit, but Justin Wilcox’s visit over the final weekend of recruiting appears to have been the final nail in the coffin of Rand’s recruitment.

One area of potential worry is Rand’s size, which was built up to be much bigger than he tested out at the U.S. Army All-American game week. Still, Rand impressed with his technique and strength for his size. At 260ish pounds, Rand will either work to put weight on to contribute up the middle or he will slide outside and add another dimension to Wisconsin’s growing stable of versatile defensive linemen.

No matter where, don’t be surprised to see Rand on the field early and often in his career — if not this season than next at the worst.
