Our View: Going in to the rivals backyard, beating them to the punch and getting him to stick to a commitment despite a full-court press by the Gophers? Welcome to the Badger family Patrick Kasl. With the Gophers doing a much better job of locking down the state, getting the No.2-ranked player out of Minnesota is a great move.

It was also a great move because of Wisconsin’s ability to once again identify talent in a player and be unafraid to offer said player upon that evaluation instead of his offer list. Kasl was a completely underrated player when the Badgers offered, but by the time senior season evaluations were done he was one of the biggest jumpers in the recruiting rankings.

No one needs to wonder why he had so few offers and Minnesota wasn’t so quick to pursue him, because the rankings compare well with the film.

As for said film, what you can see of Kasl shows a guy who is a road-grader and a mean-spirited offensive lineman. It has been awhile since we’ve seen a guy who just doesn’t care and plays with that kind of edge. He also happens to use his hands well against any opponent of any size and his pad level is very good.

Wisconsin has had plenty of stars at right tackle in the past few decades, look for Kasl to be the next one in line there.

This is the only top guy out of Minnesota that the Gophers didn't land.

Good for us.
