2023 Badger Football Thread

2d half was good. Effort, enthusiasm, and attitude.

60 minutes of 2d half and I'm happy - win, lose, or draw.

Yes, I'm a Neanderthal Knucle Dragging Loosehead Prop. It's a game. It's a fun game. I just ask my guys to show up wanting to play and win as much as their opponents. I'm unfortunately expecting the same out of the Pack today.

If you are not fired with enthusiasm you should be fired with enthusiasm.

I'm betting Coach kicked their pretty boy primadonna butts at halftime.

I'm not a bit upset that they lost to Wazzu. They're going through major changes, and there's going to be a few hiccups along the way. This was one of them. There will be more. Wait for it. The sky isn't falling.

The hype is real. There were signs out there of something down the road that can turn heads. It's just not there yet. This transition isn't one that jettisoned everyone from last year's team, like Kansas did. This is an orderly transition, honoring the people who have had commitments from the school, and I respect that. The coaches are doing a good job of integrating several players into their system as best they can, despite the fact that they are square pegs for round holes. There's going to be some situations that need to be overcome.

If I was to point out one glaring problem from the game, it would be the play by Nelson, at LT. He had a serious problem, and the two fumbles lost were because he couldn't contain the outside rush on Mordecai's blind side. Rest assured, that will be corrected by the next game, or Nelson will be getting splinters in his rear from the bench.

On defense, I can see this week being devoted to "learning how to tackle," since the yardage after hits yesterday for WSU was amazing. Top, even decent defenses, make those tackles.

Anyhow, I'm looking forward to seeing the changes they make between now and next Saturday when they face a real patsy, prior to taking on the juggernaut out of Columbus, Ohio.

This is going to be a 2-3 year work in progress. This might be a 2-3 year work before we start seeing results with this team.

In the first half, Bucky was out hustled, played with less enthusiasm, played with less attitude, and appeared to not want it as much as WSU.

That Ladies and Gentlemen is not acceptable. There are no freakin' excuses.

Because of that piss poor effort in the first Bucky looked 3-4 steps slower than WSU.

Something happened at halftime. (I'm guessing a Herb Brooks styled rile 'em up speech.)

Because in the 2d half Bucky equalled or exceeded WSU's hustle, effort, enthusiasm, and desire. But for 1 fumble by Melusi - stuff happens - Bucky was roaring back to victory.

Mistakes will happen. Things might not go the way I want.

But, lack of hustle, effort, enthusiasm, desire, and attitude is not acceptable - ever!

and his whinny butt left UCLA for the same reason... he might as well go down a level because he can't break the starting lineup in Power 5.

I don't think he will be missed to be honest. He obviously didn't hit a home run with the coaching staff, and didn't stand out in practice, the way it appears. He either isn't as good as the press clippings, or thinks he's "owed" field time, just because he graced the Badgers with his presence.

I wish him well, and am glad the Badgers have that scholarship to offer to someone who can make a difference.

Badgers beat Purdue 38-17 but big loss on night as Chez Mellusi goes down with is likely a season ending and very likely college career ending broken ankle

That was a horrible injury. It's over for Chez. I hate to see it. He has been such a hard-nosed competitor out there.

As far as the Badgers, not really an impressive win. Purdue may well be one of the weakest teams in the conference, and our defense surrendered a lot of yardage to them. If Purdue wasn't it's own worst enemy, the score wouldn't have been as lopsided as it appears. The Badgers, during the second half, had no answer for the adjustments they made on offense at halftime.

Allen got in a couple of pretty good runs. He's going to need to find a lot of them in himself, for the rest of the season, with no Mellusi there to share the load. I wonder whether it will be Yacamelli, or Acker, who moves up into the role of #2. Possibly the two of the sharing that load. Either way, they're both going to get some work. Yac is a red-shirt freshman, and Acker is a red-shirt sophomore, so both have some time at the college level, neither being just enrolled.

A nice win, but let's face it. Purdue is not a Big 10 contender. They are going to be near the bottom in the conference standings.
