2023 Badger Football Thread

Think about this for a moment. Pauling has 4.31 speed in the 40. If you're looking for a jet receiver to draw defenders like flies to a bloated dead carcass alongside a road in the July sun, this is the kind of kid who can do it. Even if you don't throw his way too often, because of over and under coverage, there are others out there who are being matched up one on one, and that's gotta make you smile.

Not sure in my lifetime UW has EVER had this kind of flurry of recruiting. It's really a breath of fresh air. Year one is going to be a transition. No miracles but in 2-3 years watch out!
And just wait til potential recruits see how Fick and Co. operate their program. Very, very exciting for years to come.

What adds to the excitement is how Longo acknowledges and embraces a full on run game to go with the passing game. He's looking at a dynamic offense, not a jail break passing game. I'm really excited to see this developing.

Like you said. Wait for it. It will develop. A year, maybe two, but watch the growth as it happens.

To much change! Keep the power run on 1st 2nd and 3rd down! :devilish:
Longo will not abandon the run. He'll make it more effective. The passing threat that his offense brings will force teams to quit playing 8 in the box to stop the run. He's going to force defenses to be honest out there, and honor the short and long passing game, as well as the run.

The concept of his version of the offense will give the QB the opportunity of three or even sometimes four options as to which of a mix of passes and runs should be run, after they get to the line of scrimmage, based on what he sees across from them. If they cheat down over there, and he's sure it's happening, the ball goes over the top, and if they're light up front, he can opt to run the ball. Making it even more effective is that they can use zone blocking when the numbers across from them isn't as high as we see employed against the Badger running game we've been using.

Longo realizes that the Air Raid offense is not as effective as it can be, if it's a committed passing offense. The mix between pass and run is intended to continuously keep defenses off balance, not knowing which will be done, from any given offensive formation.

If you look at the direction they've gone, with offensive linemen, you see that they are still going with the huge offensive linemen, and will employ a lot of inside zone runs within their system.

I don't think any of us believed for a moment it was going to become an aerial circus.

If you're gonna emphasize the "300 mi radius" as Fickell says, these are the kinds of kids that are still gonna form the core of your o-line classes. And if it comes down to adjusting your scheme (O or D) a bit, or letting some of the best in-state guys get away, Fickell seems like he'll adjust.

Heck, wasn't that the reason for the switch to the 3-4 in the first place? WI had oodles of those longer, lankier OLB players but could never seem to pick up decent d-linemen from in state.
