General:

  • No Pads

Injuries: LB Rashan Gary (PUP-Knee), CB Eric Stokes (PUP-Knee/Foot), WR Grant DuBose (NFI-Back)

Not Practicing / Limited: WR Dontayvion Wicks (concussion)

Offense:

  • No David Bakhtiari so far at practice. Matt LaFleur said yesterday it’ll be a fluid schedule for him in camp.
  • Tarvarius Moore, Tariq Carpenter and Caleb Jones are on the field after missing yesterday with an illness.
  • Love - Jones - Watson | Reed | Doubs - Musgrave - Yosh | Jenkins | Myers | Runyan | Tom
  • End around to Jayden Reed. Looked like Enagbare may have got caught inside. Some serious speed by Reed. Expect him to be the fly WR in Matt LaFleur’s offense. WE HAVE VIDEO
  • Malik Heath with a rookie mistake - didn’t catch the check at the line from Etling. He went to block when Etling threw it to him on a quick slant.
  • Etling again QB2. Leavitt and Owens at S with second defense.
  • Tyler Goodson just had a snap in a Tyler Ervin role - coming across as a decoy on a jet sweep. That would be a nice little opportunity for him. Also getting more looks lined up out wide or in the slot.
  • A lot of 2 TE sets again. Packers used 12 personnel at second highest rate last season. Again will be big factor.
  • 2nd string OL (without David Bakhtiari practicing): Caleb Jones, Sean Rhyan, Jake Hanson, Royce Newman, Rasheed Walker.
  • Lew Nichols showing some wiggle in team run/PA. Goodson broke a nice gain up middle too. No 3 RB battle off and running
  • Jordan Love to Jayden Reed for a gorgeous touchdown in the back of the end zone to start the competing red zone period. Great route - better throw. Reed got just behind Campbell. Feet in. Pretty. Campbell in coverage in zone. MORE VIDEO
  • False start on Runyan.
  • Overthrow on back shoulder to Doubs. Jaire was all over it anyway. If you’re not aware, Jaire very good at the sport of football.
  • Love slightly high for Musgrave on the next red zone play. Lots of pressure on 10 who did well to buy time but Musgrave not quite tall enough in the back of the end zone.
  • Watson from Love for a touchdown. Watson worked across field from right to left, found space. Great job of Love going through his progressions and hitting Watson on a secondary read.
  • Next play he navigates the pocket and scrambles up the middle.
  • Musgrave and Deguara on field. Pitch right to Dillon for a few yards. Nice job by defense to rally to ball.
  • Packers showing a 4 man defensive line with 2 additional edge rushers in goaline. It matters not as Jones navigates it easily for a very vintage Jones touchdown. Nice blocking by Tyler Davis lined up in line.
  • Jordan Love on an absolute line to Watson for a touchdown with Douglas having phenomenal coverage. Watson on a left out route from 5-yard line. Love placed it perfectly and with some serious juice. Awesome play by 10. Rasul Douglas unleashing a kick on a garbage can after barely missing a PBU that ended up a Christian Watson TD in a red-zone drill. VIDEOOOO
  • Etling gave Malik Heath another chance at this on their red zone drive. Malik ran the right route but dropped the pass. Tough day for the udfa.
  • Etling tries to squeeze pass to Melton, was high and behind. Owens in coverage.
  • Love finds Musgrave over the middle on a slant but Musgrave can’t hold on. Some rookie moments showing up today.
  • Love definitely going to be using his legs some this season. Just scrambled for what looked like a touchdown. Campbell may have had a chance at stopping him short if it was live.
  • Nichols for a few yards.
  • McGough has time, may have had Reed on quick out, scrambles. Throws ball away.
  • McGough low snap, nice recovery, finds Melton on slant in end zone.
  • Today the offense is doing up downs after practice. Another day won by the defense.
Defense:

  • Safeties and CBs doing individual position drills. Innis Gaines — who has played mostly out of the slot — with the CBs right now.
  • Keisean Nixon wearing a hoodie in 90 degree weather. Unreal.
  • Starters: Wyatt | Clark | Slaton - Enagbare | Campbell | Quay | Smith - Jaire | Douglas - Ford | Savage
  • Carrington Valentine can play man. 1x1 in man against Christian Watson. Love put it in a good spot but Valentine closed quickly and used his length to bat it away from Watson. Really fun play by the 7th rounder who had a very nice showing in OTA’s and minicamps as well.
  • Really nice pass rush rep from TJ Slaton, pushes his way into the backfield against Myers.
  • Innis Gaines almost comes up with a pick against a Clifford - skied nicely for a play on the ball and a pass breakup.
  • Quay Walker knifes through the line for a potential stop in the backfield. When he’s play fast, instinctual football he can be an impact player. Has so much speed at LB.
  • Isaiah McDuffie with a nice start to practice. Had a nice rush off the edge on one play and now a nice run stop. Such a natural player.
  • Jordan Love throws in traffic. Jaire Alexander knocked Jordan Love’s pass for Christian Watson up in the air, and Campbell settled under it and De’Vondre Campbell gets the INT.
  • Incomplete, throw to Dillon in flat knocked away by Douglas. Might even have been a catch and fumble.
  • Devonte Wyatt moves so damn well for a big man. Nice job getting down the line on a run to the opposite side of him.
  • Packers giving JJ Enagbare and Justin Hollins a look at OLB opposite Preston Smith. Hollins on first team yesterday, Enagbare first team today. No first-team reps for Lukas Van Ness…yet.
  • 2 RBs: Nichols and Jones. Play-action, Hollins comes in untouched. Communication breakdown upfront?
  • Pressure from Wooden. Etling scrambles.
  • Two defense wins the competition red zone. Ones are up
  • Love looking for Goodson in the flat. Jaire all over it. He’s been so good.
  • Trips left (Doubs, Watson, Reed), Love finds Musgrave on goal line. Jaire Alexander down after stopping Musgrave short of the end zone. He gets up a goes to the sideline to get looked at by a trainer. Nervous moments. Jaire back up and appeared to be walking fine. Practice comes to an end.
  • McGough at QB in red zone: Pressure from Lewan. Incomplete.

LaFleur Presser:

  • LaFleur on the offense doing pushups after practice Wednesday: "We had a competition period, seven reps and the defense won that handily. We’ll have one today in the red zone."
  • Matt LaFleur on Keisean Nixon working in the slot: "There's a lot to like about him. He's got the athletic ability you look for in a nickel corner. When he's been given opportunities, he's made plays for us."
  • Matt LaFleur on Jordan Love: "You're always going to want some throws back as a QB. There were a couple that I think he should have put a little bit more air under. That's just part of it early on in camp. We're never going to overreact to anything on the first day."
  • LaFleur says 2022 third-round pick Sean Rhyan is in better shape this summer, learned from his rookie season.
  • Matt LaFleur on Jordan Love's emerging leadership: "I know he's respected, I know his teammates respect him in the locker room, and he's earned that. ... I know everyone wants him to have a lot of success this year."
  • Matt LaFleur said he was walking out of a meeting last night and saw rookie TEs Lukas Musgrave and Tucker Kraft still in the building, going over plays: "They're not afraid of the work. We almost have to protect them from themselves sometimes."

Next Event: Practice, July 28th 10:30AM CT.

Love 5 for 13 today, from what I've heard. He was all over the place. It will take some time for the timing to sync the receivers to Love. Be patient.

One day. But, I disagree. He's a first round pick that we traded up to get - when we had the 2d he who shall no longer be mentioned playing pretty damn good. No coddling. He better get it done.

SMH Love throws a pass in camp DB nails the WR as ball gets there ball is deflected into air and picked off. Love haters going off saying see he sucks.

Gonna be lots of goods and bads this year

Maybe part of the reason the DB nailed the receiver is because he telegraphed the pass or it doesn't get there fast enough.

It's going to be a rough year.

I hope he does well.

What will be interesting is how the fans view/react. Past issues of "it's the WR fault" turning into "It's Love's fault"...

It will take time. It's not like Love had ton's of practice as the 1st QB last couple seasons. Plus the WR is green as green gets.

This year will be ugly at times for sure.... And that is just fine. It needs to be to expose the issues and fix them. I'm really looking forward to the Packers finally functioning as a team.
