You can't take kids in-state that are JUCO/D3 quality and compete in major college FB. If you didn't like the ass whippings we got earlier this year... wait Don Morton quality beat downs on the way.

What does this mean?

I know it's important to go after In State Wisconsin kids, but we're losing the best of them to better NIL offers and better playing opportunities right now. It would be nice to get some road graders who grew up rooting for the Badgers and are mean and nasty and want to kick everybody's butt, but those guys are going elsewhere now. I don't know if Wisconsin's not really the best of the best will help Bucky.

Those no longer exist, my friend. The spread O in HS FB has removed most of them. You MUST recruit top-level talent nationwide to win... remember that Kirby video you liked? They are doing the exact opposite of UGA and playing hometown politics.

It is... Let's go chase a JUCO kid from Iowa because he grew up in Door County? NO!! They lose a 3-star OL with huge upside to get a slow ass safety so we can say...looky there, a hometown kid? The Ohio State is going to put us down as homecoming fodder for the next decade!
 
it is a very sad state of affairs, and it looks like we are stuck with it for a long while.
 
In the era of NIL, how does the Wisconsin High School Football Coaches Association have such pull? It doesn't make sense.

I would love to have the Nebraska Fullback - Hometown Kid who could play. Maybe not the skill positions but the heart positions - And, play, really play and make plays. Kind of like Leonhard when he came in.

But what Mark's describing is lunacy.
