2025 Badger Football Thread

Edwards is day to day - so he's probably out.

The Oline needs to somehow Buck up regardless of who's taking the hikes, or we'll have to go get some transfers from a High School or something.

As of September 2025, Luke Fickell's buyout from his original 2022 contract with the Wisconsin Badgers is approximately $25 million at the end of the season, based on 80% of the remaining compensation from his initial seven-year deal. This figure would have been nearly $28.8 million if he were fired in mid-September 2025, decreasing to $27.5 million by December 1, 2025.

  • Fickell signed a seven-year contract in November 2022 worth $7.8 million per year, totaling about $55 million.
  • His buyout is calculated as 80% of the remaining value of this original agreement, regardless of subsequent contract extensions.
  • Although Fickell received a one-year extension in 2024 (and potentially another announced in 2025), these extensions do not affect the buyout amount.
  • The university would owe the buyout in monthly installments, but it would be reduced dollar-for-dollar if Fickell secures another coaching position at an NCAA Division I school or in the NFL.

The lack of understanding that UW faces issues far deeper than coaching to this fan base is astounding; it's not 1995 anymore.

Who are you bringing in here that can get by the academic and transfer standards, can recruit transfers with a limited NIL budget, recruit staff, and then the transfer portal can rob you in one off season just like that ( go ask Marshall if thats true or not)

Wake the hell up, UW fans.... it will take a complete change of attitude and culture within the UW hierarchy to get back to the 8 wins a year standard... Fick or no Fick.

I do agree that the admission standards need to be lowered. I think UW is only behind NW for admission standards. UW is not a ivy league school and the old farts who think education above all need to be shown the door and get some modern thinking people into the admissions office.

But even then you will always have UW being near the bottom of the Power Fours with money to spend. UW will need to find those kids who won't have much options and coach them up and get the most out of them.

The coach them up thing is long gone. Your seeing that right now... we have MAC kids and FCS kids playing against power 5 talent.

+ Buyout drops to $6.4 million after the 2030 season
+ Buyout drops to $0 after the 2031 season
this is incorrect.

The buyout amount from Luke Fickell's original 2022 contract with the University of Wisconsin will drop to zero once the original seven-year contract expires — at the end of the 2029 season.

  • Fickell signed a seven-year deal in November 2022, covering through the 2029 season[1][3][7].
  • The buyout is based on 80% of the remaining value of this original contract and decreases annually as the contract progresses[2][7][9].
  • Even though Fickell received a one-year extension in 2024 (and another in 2025), those extensions do not affect the buyout calculation — only the original 2022–2029 agreement is used for determining the payout[2][7][9].
  • Therefore, after January 1, 2030, if Fickell is still employed by Wisconsin, there will be no remaining balance on the original contract, and the buyout will be $0[7][9].
In short, the buyout reaches zero at the conclusion of the 2029 football season.
