Wisconsin has built up that fence around the home state since the return of Paul Chryst. That trend continues with the 2018 class.

Our recruiting partners at Badger247 report that in-state prospect C.J. Goetz jumped on an offer from the Badgers. It came less than 24 hours after UW offered the Waukesha Catholic Memorial prospect.

Goetz not only plays at one of the most consistent programs in the state, he was also a first team all-state selection as a junior. It is hard not to see why after he racked up 103 tackles, six sacks, one interception, one forced fumble and three fumble recoveries last season.

He is currently an unranked prospect by the 247Sports composite rankings. However, we bet that will change once the services get a chance to evaluate his film and his performances at camps this spring.

Bowling Green, New Mexico, Northern Illinois and FCS program Illinois State had all offered. Fellow Big Ten program Michigan State was evaluating Goetz as well.

It is interesting to see the recruiting services list him as an inside linebacker, in large part because his tape shows an instinctual linebacker who plays with speed and power off the edge. He also can put his hand down and rush the passer, as his junior film shows.

Badger247 does report that Wisconsin plans to start Goetz out at outside linebacker.
