Senior Day couldn’t have gone any better for the Wisconsin Badgers women’s hockey team on Sunday. Not only did the team win, but it sent the seniors off with a huge 8-0 victory over rival Minnesota-Duluth.

More importantly, it meant back-to-back WCHA titles for the Badgers (27-2-2, 22-2-2-2) and their sixth overall conference crown.

Ironically, it was the junior class that sent the seniors off in style, scoring seven of Wisconsin’s eight goals.

Junior Baylee Wellhausen put together her first career hattrick, scoring UW’s second, fourth and sixth goals of the game. Meanwhile, fellow junior Annie Pankowski netted two early third period goals to cap off Wisconsin’s scoring for the day.

They were also here 19th and 20th goals on the season, while UW also got single goals from juniors Emily Clark and Maddie Rolfes as well as freshman Abby Roque.

While the offense was all junior-led, it was senior Ann-Renée Desbiens doing the work at the back end. She earned her 50th career shutout, while having to make just 15 saves to earn her NCAA-leading 12th shutout of the season.

UW completely controlled the Bulldogs, peppering UMD goaltender Maddie Rooney with 42 shots and all eight goals. It was a 48-15 advantage in shots on net for Wisconsin.

The Badgers still have one more weekend of regular season action to go, as they cross in to enemy territory for the final Border Battle series of the year with the No. 5 Minnesota Gophers.
