Brewers sign Jackie Bradley Jr

Brewers make move that makes no sense. Brewers sign Jackie Bradley Jr to 2 year 24 million dollar contract with player option for year 2. Brewers now have 4 outfielders making at least $10 million a year. Got to figure Cain or Avisail Garica will be moved because makes no sense to have a 4th OF making that much.
 
Arguably the best defensive OF in baseball and creates some depth, over 160+ games injuries happen. In the big scheme of things it’s not much on your payroll

Yeah heard he is a very good defensive OF but he struggles at the plate. IMO we need a more bats then a better glove in the field.
 
In the grand scheme it's not a lot of money, but in the Brewers world it sure is. Their entire payroll is now about $85-100mil. Bradley, a defensive/depth guy is eating up 12-15% of your payroll. That doesn't make a ton of sense to me though I will concede that Cain was playing hurt late in 2019 and sat out 2020 so may need to sit more this season. Maybe Garcia will have to take a lesser role or maybe he can play some 1B.

They also still need to find some depth at 3B unless Travis Shaw looks good this spring and they add him to the roster. There are still a bunch of so-so 3B options as free agents but nothing inspiring. Hopefully this deal makes more sense to me in July/Aug that it does right now.
 
I have watched JBJ ever since he wore a Red Sox uniform. He was a fan favorite here. The fact is he was a great OFer here in Boston. The obvious problem was his bat. Hitting in the low .200s was a problem and year after year we couldn't help hoping this guy would break out of his drought. I'll say one thing for JBJ, when he hits them they go a long way. Sink or swim for JBJ..mostly SINK. Hope he does better for the Brewers than he did for Boston.

That’s fair. On one hand I get the concern but on the flip side i applaud the organization for spending. Many fans bitch about them being cheap. At worst it gives them flexibility and depth and upgrades the defense.
 
Deal has a opt out after year 1 and deferred money.....

Well this is proving true so far Bradley only hitting .214 on the year but then again most of the team can't figure out how to hit as the team average is only .206 third worst in MLB. Thankfully the Brewers pitching is lights out so far which is letting them win games when only scoring a few runs a game.

And in 7 of the last 10 they have scored more than 5 runs without Yelich. It’s not the 82 Brewers but it’s only 16 games in so sample size is not large.
 
The Brewers bull pen surprises me to be honest. I'd sure welcome it with the White Sox, whose pen is like a disaster area.
