Defensive Coordinator Candidates Thread

Al Harris and Jim Leonhard who else can they interview to make the WI homers happy? Maybe Charles Woodson or Leroy Butler.

Packers interviewed defensive backs coach Al Harris today for their defensive coordinator job.

He may be decent. Everything I have read or heard about his coaching has been good. If that translates to a defensive coordinator job, who knows, but every DC has to be a first time DC at one point in their career.

Harris joined the Bears in 2025 after spending four seasons (2020–2024) with the Dallas Cowboys, where he served as defensive backs coach and was elevated to assistant head coach in 2024. Under his guidance, the Cowboys’ secondary led the NFL in interceptions from 2021 to 2024, with players like Trevon Diggs and DaRon Bland achieving elite individual success.

As of January 22, 2026, Harris has interviewed for the defensive coordinator position with the Green Bay Packers, following Jeff Hafley’s departure to become the Miami Dolphins’ head coach. He is also a candidate for the defensive coordinator role with the Washington Commanders, where he previously worked under head coach Dan Quinn from 2021 to 2023.

Despite strong interest from multiple teams, Harris remains with the Bears for now, having helped lead a defense that ranked first in the NFL in interceptions (23) and third in total takeaways (33) during the 2025 season.
