I'm playing hardball here. Malik Willis has suddenly become a chip in the trade market. Not only because of the two games he played, but because his contract is so cap friendly. Less than $1.2 mill this year, and just a tad over $1.4 mill next year, and not a free agent until 2026.

If Love does come back against the Vikings, stronger than ever, does anyone believe any team out there might be interested in grabbing Malik for a player, or pick or two to shore up their QB position this year? Possibly someone who believes he could be the answer to their problems down the road?

The Packers gave up a 7th round pick, and right now, his value is a heck of a lot higher than that, without doubt. But how high? Possibly as high as a #3? What is the value of a QB who has shown so much in so short of a time, if the system is one he can play in?

So, who would be needing someone like him?

Is Tampa Bay sold on Baker Mayfield? Would they look to someone like Willis?
Cleveland has Deshaun Watson and Jamies Winston. Are they sold on either one? Would they be a fit, or want him?
Washington has Jaden Daniels. Are they sold on him, or even their back up, Mariota? I dunno.
Dallas has Dak Prescott, and his game is sporadic at best. Would they look to replace him? Would Willis be a fit?
Miami has Tua Tagovailoa. Scary situation because of concussions. Skylar Thompson or Tim Boyle back ups? How about here?
NY Giants have Daniel Jones. They swear by him, and will until they swear at him and dump him. Would this be a good spot?
NY Jets have Aaron Rodgers. His tank is running near empty. This could be a good place for Willis, don't you think?
Carolina has Bryce Young and Andy Dalton. OK. Willis might not fit, but at his price, might they want to shed salary?
New England. Jacoby Brissett. Drake Maye is the QB in waiting, and this probably wouldn't be a fit. But, you never know, right?
Las Vegas. The Garropolo, Minshew, & O'Connell trio. I don't know. Probably not. But, you never know, right?
Seattle has Geno Smith. Getting a little long in the tooth, and only a decent QB at best. Is Sam Howell actually good enough? Dunno!
Pittsburgh has Justin Fields and Russ Wilson. I think they'd be better off with Willis than either of them. What'cha think? A suitor?
Minnesota has Sam Darnold. Mixed emotions here. He does look respectable. But, would they bite to get Willis?

Then there's the injury situation as the season rolls along. I doubt the Packers would trade him during this season, probably would if the price is right, before next year's draft. But, the price would be fairly stiff. Going the rest of the way through 2024, and 2025 with a solid back up QB in the house is priceless for an NFL team. It's possible that the Packers have the best two deep QBs in the entire NFL.

The quick answer is No, two games does not make you top trade bait nor does it change what he is. Come on TW you know better.... the film is what the film is. He was "made" by ML game plan the past two weeks. Don't undersell the organization and or system aspect of this.

Somewhere in the middle... Matt Lafleur drew up two great game plans! But Malik did execute them almost flawlessly.

I agree. LeFleur did make Willis. The same argument can be made that he made in reference to Love. I believe he's a QB molded by LeFleur.

It doesn't alter any opinions. GMs can get desperate, and offer some fairly substantial prizes for unknown quantities in hopes that it's the right person to help them turn the corner.

The funny thing about this - and it’s not picking on you TW because i see the sentiment everywhere - is that GB has been looking for a competent backup QB seemingly forever. Now they trade a 7th round pick for a guy with a few years under his belt, who has shown he can come in, execute a game plan, not screw up too much and have a great attitude about it all, and people want to immediately get rid of him. I think he is at his NFL ceiling right now, it’s a great place for him and he’s great for GB to have.

I think they should just not over think it, just keep him this year and considering giving him a contract in the offseason.

I think at best GB could get maybe a 5th for Willis. For that little return GB is better to keep him as a backup.

It's all about what someone is willing to pay. If all they're offered is a 5th or later - hard pass. Just keep him for this season and next.

Now if someone blows you away, then Gute has a duty to listen. I don't see that happening. Like Mark said above, there's more than these last 2 games of tape on the guy. Teams will question just how much of what they saw these last 2 games was a coach with a good game plan and a solid starting cast making Willis look better than he really is against a pair of "meh" opponents. Willis was better this week than last, but teams really don't know where he peaks. He really hasn't had to carry a team.

If they can get him on a cheap deal, I'd be in favor of the Packers signing him to a longer deal in the off-season. It serves two purposes. You have your back-up for several years, and if he balls out in his future chances, you have him on a friendly contract making him easier to trade for a higher pick.

Thing is now even quality backups are in the $5-10 million range. Packers have shown they are cheap when it comes to the backup wanting to stay as close to the min salary as they can.

In Willis' two starts, he has completed 75.8% of his passes with a 126.3 rating. Willis is the fourth different Packers player with 200-plus passing yards, 50-plus rushing yards, a passing touchdown and a rushing touchdown in a game.

I don't see a trade value based on a pure pick. I'd say, if it was for a pick, there'd be an escalating factor based on stats that he could end up making. In other words, a 5th could end up being a 3rd, if he plays at an extremely high level. This has become a practice we're seeing more of as the years go on. It's a good way to hedge bets on trades.

But it doesn't matter. It was just an opinion, nothing more.
