We got worse. You don't hire a guy who was DC for a team that was 0-16 and later on got fired from a bad Washington also for his defense sucking. This was nothing but a hey I worked with you in LA I will give you a job because I know you instead of being the best hire I could make.

I think ML values experience. Whether it be bad or good. Look, he let Pettine hang around upon hire. I think he doesn't have enough confidence yet, in himself, to hire a young up and Comer to have at the defense. Just my opinion.
 
That's not very convincing. Either a job in GB lost its luster or they royally screwed up the search..

in his defense pun not intended.... the two guys he probably really wanted were hired before he could get involved. A Very poor meh group left.... this is why teams that go deep rarely make major coaching changes.
 
Still say this defense gets worse it's ML who's feet get held to fire for he made the choice to go with Barry. I know there was not much out there but there was better then Barry to hire.

Agree if you don't like what's out there to replace what you got you don't make a change knowing you will have to settle for whatever you can get to replace a guy.
 
Seems like a placeholder DC until they can get a better one or retool the def... Is that a window I hear slamming shut??

Just gonna have to trust ML on this one. He doesn't strike me as one to grasp at straws. There's a method to his madness. He'll rise or fall accordingly.

Seems like a slippery slope to go down, if you start using placeholder hires. That could be a yearly thorn in the side that could derail a great coaching staff and HC.
