I still don't know what sense the Simmons signing makes. Like Hardman, it depends on the money. This may be not much more than a try out type contract. They've gotta be careful about the mix in the ILB room. Both Cooper and Walker are big, twitched up guys and I expect both to miss some time. You can't just have ST guys behind them, they need at least one primary backup who can call the D, because otherwise the dot helmet goes to McKinney and now we're up a creek without a paddle because we're putting more on the plate of a guy who is trying to be the stalwart of a limited secondary.
I guess the positive of Simmons is he's super athletic, and you think about what you can do with him to generate pressure on the QB. Ideally he should be a good cover LB but as rb posted, he hasn't been, and my understanding of his recent play is that he's basically been all of the bad parts of Quay Walker with little of the good.
