Packers 2026/27 Season Thread

I hope I am wrong, but they just spent 2 years moving to a 4-front with specific needs... shifting back to a 34-front and zone coverage is just plain bad juju.
i think it was you who pointed out that it doesn't really matter because they are hardly ever in base. but maybe i am misremembering. one thing we really don't have to worry about is the draft because gute never really pays any attention to matching his picks to anything as specific as 3-4 vs 4-3. we're lucky if he drafts an actual dl and not someone he wants to convert to dl.

You just spent two years recalibrating for a 43 front... now you're jumping back to a 34. Add in your hiring a guy who tends to love zone...we flat out suck at it. It doesn't add up for me at all.

To be honest I think we are going to play a mix of all kinds of stuff. GB will be in 43 and 34 and inbetween. Not sure that will work out playing a mixture of schemes to try to confuse the other teams.

I see the concern with Wyatt but I honestly don't know who else it applies to. Parsons is all world regardless (injury recovery TBD and not relevant to scheme). LVN is a stand up edge, Hafley had him doing it last year. Cox arguably is a better stand up edge than pure 4-3 DE, that's sort of what I remember his draft profile saying. Frankly I don't think Gute went out of his way to really commit to that 4-3 front, they never tried to transform themselves into the 49ers front, as an example, personnel wise. Hafley still had both LVN and Gary standing up.

I don't like the Gannon hire overall precisely because I still see too much lack of talent, his success in Philly was player dependent up front, those guys were demons. ML seems to be the only coach who had a problem playing against his D in Arizona, I don't like all that zone stuff especially when CB1 right now is Nixon who has proven to be lazy and poor tracking the ball when it's in front of him.

worlds collide: you and ken ingalls are on the same page.

I worry about the move to a new defense in general, but it's a few spots down the list of worries compared to some others. I actually think Parsons, Cox, Sorrel, and Oliver sort of fit the 3-4 Edge types. LVN is less of a fit to me but can probably sorta pull it off .

No matter what front we play, it seems to me we lack the DL and CBs to make any defense work at a high level. They need a NT and another DE. They also kinda suck at CB. If they don't fix those positions it won't matter who the DC is and what the scheme is.

And don't even get me started on the o-line where we currently have 4 starters who have never proven to be at least average for an entire season, and the one guy (Tom) who has proven it, is coming off a major injury. Plus they just have a bunch of unknowns as back-ups other than Kinnard. Big worry for me.

it sure seems like we are headed for another mediocre year where we just barely make it to the playoffs and then lose in embarrassing fashion. it's the wisconsin way.

I sure hope they don't put Parsons at CB like they did with Preston Smith. Pay Parsons 48 million a year to not do what he does best and rush the passer
