Packers vs. Cardinals officially no longer under flex scheduling consideration

Green Bay's showdown with Arizona kicks off at 3:25 p.m. CT.

Earlier this month, Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians told the media that his team's Week 16 matchup with the Green Bay Packers would not be flexed into primetime. The NFL made that official Monday, announcing that NBC's Sunday Night Football would only consider flexing New York Giants vs. Minnesota Vikings that weekend.

For the Packers, the announcement means no more games in front of a national audience before the postseason begins (though their tilt with the Cardinals should garner plenty of eyeballs given its 3:25 p.m. CT kickoff). The change does mean that, should NBC exercise its right to swap games, the Vikings will know where they stand in the NFC North prior to kickoff.


According to the league, the decision on whether to flex the game will depend on the outcome of Monday Night Football this week. If the Giants win, NBC plans to take the Vikings game. If not, the game will feature the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens.
